Another 2025 goal realized. My copy of Dermatology Fundamentals just arrived in the mail. I’m proud to have authored the chapter on soft tissue fillers with my sister in dermatology Dr. Cheri Frey.

Man, the 90s. What a time to be alive. When people were decent and respectful. Or were at least too embarrassed to not pretend to be.

I look back at these photos and remember all the hopes and dreams and innocence. Thank God for delivering in all his promises for me. And for this abundantly joyful life!

I knew I wanted to be a dermatologist early — long before I had the words for it.

Growing up in New Orleans East, you were encouraged to be one of two things: a doctor or a lawyer. I loved science and math, but I was also creative — drawn to the artistry of medicine.

Living down the street from Dr. Errol Penzel, the only Black dermatologist in Louisiana for nearly 50 years, changed everything. He became a mentor and helped me see early on that dermatology was the path for me.

Every step since has only confirmed it.

Purpose has a way of revealing itself early — if you’re paying attention.

Better late than never I suppose. The FDA has proposed Bemotrizinol or Tinosorb S for approval. This is the sunscreen filter that’s in your favorite European or Korean sunscreen. Odd timing considering the Korean skincare ban on TikTok last year. I’m sure there’s no conflict of interest. 😉
