We’ve let some the things that bring us joy go in this season. The messiness has its own beauty: the butterflies and hummingbirds were abundant this summer. The time has come to clean up and clean out the things that keep us cluttered. Just because we simplify, doesn’t mean we can’t plug things in to attract the birds and the bugs again :)

It’s time for Real Life Wednesday: You do not have to love motherhood in order to love your baby. It’s is possible to love the one you created and to not love every aspect of raising the one you created. Can anyone else relate??

I’m so honored that I was afforded the opportunity to bring Eliana earth side in such a warm and peaceful environment!! I cannot recommend birthing at Oasis Family Birthing Center enough!!! Look at all you’ve accomplished this last year 🤗🥰

We have great news!!! is now the first Nationally Accredited Birth Center in Alabama! We have undergone a rigorous credentialing process with the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC) to demonstrate our compliance with standards, evidence based practice and the midwifery model of care. Help us celebrate this landmark achievement!

Someone is very happy mamma works from home now. Xena has taken up residence on my lap and may or may not be in attendance to your session with me today. Don’t worry though, I got her paw print on a confidentiality statement for good measure. 🐾😻

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!! Eliminate 👏🏼 negative 👏🏼 influences 👏🏼 in 👏🏼 your 👏🏼 life 👏🏼

Control what YOU can control. There will always be negativity around us, but what we can do is minimize where possible!

Someone on your news feed always posting things that irritate you? UNFOLLOW.

News stations keep you feeling hopeless? DONT TURN IT ON.

A certain coworker, family member, or neighbor always getting you ruffled? DONT ENGAGE. (And if it’s your spouse, don’t worry. I offer couples counseling, too! 😜)

PROTECT YOUR PEACE.

Set boundaries for yourself, friends, and family, and do so with kindness and respect.

“Boundaries: The distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.”

Utilize your support system!! One of the least helpful things you can do when struggling depression or anxiety is keep it to yourself. We are created to be in community with people. This means swallowing our pride and being vulnerable from time to time. Let someone know you’re struggling.

There is something cathartic about vocalizing the struggle. Somehow IT GIVES IT LESS POWER over us.

Letting someone you trust know what’s going on can help them know how to better support you. “It makes so much sense” they’ll say. Your unexplained subtle changes in behavior suddenly become so clear to them.

Test me on this one :) Tell someone you trust.

Today’s Free Therapy Thursday is coming to you on a gloomy Friday morning because well… life got the best of me yesterday. 😵‍💫

Bouncing off last week’s “treat yourself,” we have “celebrate every step.” Taking a goal or to do list and chunking it down into smaller, more manageable steps will save you a ton of overwhelm and lead to progress! Looking at you, my ADHD loves.

Let’s start with goals. Whatever goal you have, cut it in half, and then maybe cut it in half again. It’s not because I think you’re incapable. It’s because I know you’re more likely to reach it if you start by setting something easy to achieve to get the momentum going. Chances are you will far exceed your cute little tiny goal and then keep working because it feels good to have done what you said you were going to do! Hello, snowball effect.

Celebrate the tiny goals!! Every 👏🏼 single 👏🏼 one 👏🏼

If your to do list is overwhelming, select 1 thing to do for the day. Just 1!! Feel proud when you have put a check mark next to it. Or, if you’re like me, sometimes I need to throw something away to feel accomplished. Write your one to do thing on a sticky note and then toss it once the task is complete! Not having an entire list staring back at you can help you knock things out without being bogged down in the big picture of alllll the things you need to do.

Free Therapy Thursday means TREAT YOURSELF!!! It’s so easy to get bogged down with the mundane, day-to-day grind. Being intentional with planning nice things for yourself throughout your week (or day) can help keep spirits high and momentum going! I’m not talking about an extravagant lunch or a spa day (but if your budget allows for that to be your little pick me up, then by all means, full steam ahead!!) I’m talking about some small scale rewards that give us something to look forward to.

•Ok self, you can’t watch that episode until you get the laundry switched over to the dryer.

•Ok self, once we get Kid A on the bus, Kid B to daycare and Kid C to their 9 month check up, you get a mid morning cup of joe from that little coffee shop you love.

•Ok self, once you compete 30 minutes worth of computer work, you get to take a lap around the building and let the sun ☀️ hit your face for 2 minutes. (I don’t have a window in my office, so this one is particularly appealing ☺️)

Incorporating small ✨glimmers✨ into your routine can break up the monotony and give you something to keep you motivated!

What kind of small things motivate you to keep going??

Yesterday was set up to be a case of the Mondays 😵‍💫 Nothing like getting out the door on time just for your car to not start. And then I remember last Thursday’s free therapy tip: glimmers! Time to practice what you preach, Danielle. Here it goes:

✨We haven’t had to replace the battery since we bought this car in 2019 😱
✨the mechanic wore the same aftershave my Grandaddy used to wear 🥰
✨He had the same name as my dad (hey Daddio 👋🏼)
✨I was barely an hour late for work.
✨I have awesome neighbors that jumped (literally- jumped off my car) on the chance to help me!

What glimmers have you found today??

✨What’s a glimmer? ✨“A glimmer of hope” is the first thing that comes to mind. In this instance, it’s a small little nod that points us in the direction of hope or positivity.

Glimmers can also be grouped in with gratitude. I know…Here we go again with the cliches, but stick with me. Gratitude does not take the place of sadness, hopelessness, anxiety and the like. It’s normal to feel all of these at some point, and important for us to hold space for ourselves to feel these emotions. What gratitude CAN do is help us from getting stuck in those feelings.

Ever heard the phrase “you find what you’re looking for”? Depression can get us stuck in a cycle of negative thought patterns. Intentionally looking for glimmers (in this case I mean small things to be thankful for), can help our minds begin to look for positive things that once brought us joy that we may be overlooking now.

Here are some of my glimmers:
✨when that first sip of coffee hits your soul
✨walking outside and being hit with warmth instead of the frigid cold
✨when you lay down at night and it feels like the bed hugs you in for a cozy snooze
✨sitting in the stillness of the late evening after everyone is asleep (where my night owls at!? 🦉)

What are your glimmers??
