It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of the lifeforce that is, Robert (Rick) Schuster who blessed this world with immeasurable love, wisdom, joy and humor on February 2, 1949 and transitioned into Jesus' loving arms on August 16, 2024.
He was the beloved husband for 37 years and soulmate of Tammy Schuster, Daddy to Danna Crocker (Steven), Kimberly Brickell, Nathan Schuster (Nikki) and Rick Alfano (Denise); Grandchildren, Ash Lynn , Bryanna (Walter) and Mattie Crocker, Cambria Brickell, Hunner and Ryker Schuster, Sterling and Tanner Alfano; great grandchildren AJ Chataginer, JC Couch and Baby Crocker; Uncle to Jennifer Williams (Frank), Jason and Jacob Anderson and bonus family to Gary, Tracy, Tyler, Ryan, Katelyn, Emmie, Remy and River Wells; Justin, Kandies, Ballin, Blaize and Bricen St John. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Smelcer, father, Orthmar Schuster; grandparents Elsworth Metcalf, Gladys Katherine Metcalf, Orthmar (Otto) Schuster and Dorothy Schuster, and Aunt Elizabeth Mae (Betty) Schuster Smith.
He was a wonderful man and husband, he was an incredible daddy and papa to not only his children and grandchildren but to the many that he loved and helped raise over the years teaching us all unconditional love, care, and giving us a safe place to talk and be ourselves.
For 27 years he dedicated himself to his work at CSX railroad and to volunteering his extra time as a coach and president of Center Point Ballpark, sharing his faith with others at Jimmie Hale Mission. He often freely gave to the homeless in loving ways, once saying “it isn’t always the money you give them but the kindness you give” and kindness and giving was his specialty. He and his loving wife often helped others in need, sometimes taking them in, other times playing Santa Claus at Christmas, and other times just seeing someone struggle and stepping in to help in whatever ways they could.
Despite all of his good deeds he will be most missed in those simple moments like driving and singing with his wife, yelling “Hey, Danna Craaacker, How the hell are you?”, taking the grands to Waffle House or the kids to Sneaky Petes and telling each of us “You’re my favorite”, hanging out watching Lone Ranger, learning and challenging religious and political views, or listening to Cats in the Cradle, dancing to Butterfly Kisses with his girls, handed the boys off knuckle sandwiches and so many other special moments that will forever exist in our memories and hearts.
Services honoring his legacy of love, wisdom and giving will be held at Bells Funeral Home in Forestdale Sunday August 25, 2024 at 5:00-7:00 pm for visitation, Monday August 26, 2024 at 11:00 am followed by graveside services at Highland Memorial Gardens in Hueytown. Boom Shakalaka Boom!
