This week's is Maya Handberry-Howard, M.D., M.P.H., PGY1. Originally from Milledgeville, Georgia, Maya earned her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. When not at work, you may find her watching Hocus Pocus, fishing with her dad and husband, trying new food at Shu Shop, or spending time with her family, friends, and dog, Arya.

"UAB checked off all of my boxes when I was looking for residency programs. I loved the larger program and case diversity. There were plenty of research, fellowship, and teaching opportunities and I quickly felt at home during the away rotation I completed my fourth year of medical school. I am loving the program! I am happy to finally train as a pathologist after years of hard work. I am living in answered prayers and cannot help but to be grateful."
