Virginia Duncan, M.D., an associate professor in the Division of Women’s Health, is a co-author of a new study exploring how an immune switch called NFAT supports healthy pregnancy. The research shows that when NFAT is suppressed, fewer natural killer cells reach the uterus, a change linked to preeclampsia and early pregnancy failure.

Nirupama Singh, M.D., Ph.D., an associate professor in the Division of Laboratory Medicine, recently completed the UAB Sharing Authentically to Inspire and Lead (SAIL) Program, hosted by UAB Medicine's Leadership Development Office. The program supports junior faculty as they develop authentic leadership approaches, strengthen professional networks, and navigate the unique challenges of early academic careers.

Shu Chen, Ph.D., Ona Faye-Petersen Endowed Professor, is a co-investigator of the recently awarded five-year, $3.4M multi-site R01 study “The Impact of Brief Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia on Cognition and Sleep Health in Older Adults with HIV. Chen worked alongside UAB collaborators S. Justin Thomas, Ph.D., David Vance, Ph.D., and Shameka Cody, Ph.D.

Craig Mackinnon, M.D., Ph.D., MSHA, Robert B. Adams Endowed Professor, Division Director, Genomic Diagnostics and Bioinformatics, has been named director of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Laboratory by UAB Hospitals, effective immediately.

In his new role, Mackinnon will oversee the highest standards of patient safety, diagnostic accuracy and regulatory excellence across the health system’s clinical laboratories.
