Alzheimer’s Update with David Geldmacher, MD, November 3, Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest, 1221 Montgomery Highway, 6 – 7:30 pm.

A UAB Professor of Neurology, widely respected in the field of memory disorders and Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Geldmacher is the Warren Family Endowed Chair in Neurology and Director of the Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology in the Department of Neurology at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine.

He leads UAB’s Brain Aging and Memory Clinic program, which focuses on the interdisciplinary care of people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.

Photos lining a long corridor adjacent to the new Brain Aging and Memory Hub at UAB at first glance show a couple in love, a smiling family, and colorful scenery. Beyond the surface, however, exists a deeper implication – one not only between husband and wife, but between patient and caregiver.

This week is World Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) awareness week. Dr. Kay Ivey signed a proclamation designating the week of Sept 22-29 2024 to be FTD Awareness Week for the State of Alabama. Only six other states have such proclamations. Cheryl Lee, BSN (a doctoral student in the UAB School of Nursing) worked with Representative Russel Bledsoe to obtain this proclamation.
