We are incredibly proud of our MedRenew patient, Sam Sofio, who will be speaking as a panelist at the HHS Lyme Disease roundtable this Monday with Secretary Robert F. Kennedy. He’ll be sharing his powerful journey with Lyme and serving as a strong advocate for others facing the same battle.

Sam has been under Carrye’s care since her days practicing in D.C., and she couldn’t be more thrilled to see how he’s taken such a difficult experience and turned it into a force for helping others.

Please join us in cheering him on! You can watch it live on Monday 2:00- 4:30pm EST at https://www.youtube.com/

What happens when two misunderstood chronic illnesses collide? Today, Summer sits down with Lyme expert and nurse practitioner Carrye Hodges, who shares her powerful story of being dismissed by doctors for years before finally receiving a Lyme diagnosis. Together, they break down the striking similarities between Lyme disease and Long COVID, why standard testing so often fails patients, and how true healing requires listening, deep investigation, and collaboration.

This episode also introduces a brand-new integrative program designed for patients who have both Lyme and Long COVID — an emerging group that desperately needs answers. If you’ve been gaslit, overlooked, or told “your labs are normal,” this conversation is for you.

Did you know excessive thirst can be an overlooked symptom of Lyme disease?

A recent patient story highlights how persistent thirst—paired with unexplained low blood sugar, fatigue, headaches, and other systemic symptoms—was repeatedly dismissed for years. Despite drinking up to 20 glasses of water a day, she was told to “drink less” or try hard candies, while the true cause went unrecognized.

It wasn’t until she finally saw a Lyme-literate provider that the pieces came together: multiple tick-borne infections had been impacting her thyroid and adrenal function, driving her extreme thirst and other symptoms. With appropriate treatment and support for underlying imbalances, her thirst slowly normalized, especially once she incorporated electrolytes and stabilized her blood sugar.

Excessive thirst can signal many possible root causes, including tick-borne illness. If your symptoms don’t fit neatly into a box, keep advocating for answers. Your body’s signals matter, and you know when something isn’t right.

Fatigue, brain fog, dizziness, and other persistent or sometimes vague symptoms can significantly affect daily life. Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses could be the root cause, and we also provide care for POTS and mast cell activation, which may be present in some patients.

In certain individuals suffering with both Lyme and lingering Long COVID, there is often an overlap in symptoms. For these patients, our hybrid program offers an additional care option.

Sharing this post could help someone you know find answers.

This one’s for EVERY Lyme warrior who was told “it’s all in your head.” Chronic Lyme is now listed right alongside Long COVID in brand-new CDC research on chronic illness after infection. Borrelia burgdorferi is officially named. This is no longer a debate, it’s a federal priority. 💚🦠

“The supplement includes research regarding IACCIs occurring after infections caused by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), respiratory syncytial virus, Giardia lamblia, Coccidioides immitis, Borrelia burgdorferi and other Borrelia species (Lyme disease), and West Nile virus.”

Keep making noise. Keep sharing your story. They’re finally listening.

UVA Reports First Death from Alpha-Gal Syndrome (Tick-Borne Meat Allergy)

UVA researchers have confirmed the first fatal case of alpha-gal syndrome — the delayed meat allergy caused by bites from the Lone Star tick and its larvae often mistaken for “chiggers.”
These bites can sensitize the body to alpha-gal, a sugar in beef, pork, and lamb. Reactions usually occur 3–5 hours after eating meat and can progress from severe abdominal pain and vomiting to life-threatening anaphylaxis. A healthy 47-year-old man died shortly after eating beef, underscoring the condition’s seriousness.

Key Signs:
• Severe abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting hours after eating meat
• Tick bites or “chigger-like” bites that itch longer than a week
UVA urges increased awareness as Lone Star ticks continue to expand their range.

While some individuals may be able to feel the moment a tick bites, most people cannot. Ticks secrete an anesthetic to ensure hosts will not be aware that they are being fed on. Make sure to check yourself for ticks regularly; you never know when one of these vicious vectors might have latched on!
Found a tick? Don't delay! Order your test today! Visit ticklab.org/test-my-tick to have your tick checked for disease.
