At MedRenew, we see many patients with Alpha-Gal and use an individualized treatment plan to help them work towards healing.

“Alpha-gal syndrome is a delayed allergic reaction to a specific carbohydrate molecule found in mammalian meat and certain medical products and has important, yet under-recognised implications for dentistry. In a recent literature review and case report, researchers from the US have examined the potential for alpha-gal syndrome reactions related to dental products and identified multiple materials and ingredients that could pose risks to affected patients.”

“There are many dental products that may contain compounds that could promote an alpha-gal reaction, such as haemostatic solutions, suture materials, toothpastes, artificial saliva substitutes, fluoride gels, soft-tissue and bone grafting materials, tooth prophylaxis pastes and mouthwashes,’ he said. ‘Many of these aforementioned products contain gelatin, collagen, glycerine and other compounds that could trigger a reaction with repeated exposure.”

Study found that alpha-gal syndrome reactions are related to dental products and identified materials and ingredients that could pose risks.

Mast cell activation is see frequently in the Lyme disease (and other tick-borne illnesses) and is amplified post-COVID.

“Mast Cell Activation Syndrome occurs when mast cells become hyperreactive, releasing their powerful mediators too frequently, too abundantly, or in response to triggers that shouldn't normally cause activation. Unlike mastocytosis (a rare condition where there's an abnormal accumulation of mast cells), in MCAS, the number of mast cells is normal—it's their behavior that's problematic.

This dysregulated mast cell activity leads to chronic inflammation and a wide range of symptoms affecting multiple body systems. Because mast cells are located throughout your body, MCAS can manifest in diverse and seemingly unrelated ways, often leading to diagnostic confusion.”

Many patients are suffering from Mast Cell Activation Syndrome—a condition that's gaining recognition but remains poorly understood by healthcare providers..

“Long contentious, chronic Lyme, as it is called by patient advocates, has gained more acknowledgment and investment by researchers after Covid-19 showcased how an infection can leave people with lingering symptoms that last months or longer. The virus’s aftermath looked strikingly similar to what some Lyme disease patients had been describing for years.”

MedRenew closely collaborates with MedHelp Clinic’s renowned long COVID program, and this cutting edge field provides both patient populations more comprehensive care.

Bartonella is a co-infection often seen in patients with Lyme disease.
“What makes Bartonella particularly insidious is its profound impact on the vascular system. Unlike many other bacteria that primarily affect specific organs, Bartonella has a special affinity for blood vessels throughout the body, creating a systemic problem that can manifest in numerous ways.

Bartonella specifically targets and infects the endothelial cells—the critical cells that line the interior surface of blood vessels. Once established in these cells, Bartonella triggers a cascade of harmful processes:

Vascular Proliferation: Bartonella can stimulate the abnormal growth of small blood vessels, a process called angiogenesis. This inappropriate vascular proliferation can lead to lesions in various tissues, including the skin, liver, and spleen.

Endothelial Inflammation: The infection triggers a localized inflammatory response in blood vessel walls, leading to vascular damage and dysfunction.

Disruption of Vascular Integrity: As Bartonella replicates within endothelial cells, it weakens the structural integrity of blood vessels, potentially leading to microvascular leakage.

Impaired Blood Flow: The combination of inflammation, structural changes, and vascular dysfunction can impair microcirculation, reducing oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues throughout the body.”

A fascinating case study recently published in the European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases has shed light on this exact scenario. The report details how investigating a supposed case of long COVID revealed an underlying Bartonella henselae infection that was discovered throug...

Lyme disease IS in Alabama.

In 2017, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey issued a proclamation outlining the prevalence of Lyme disease in the state. These numbers likely have grown from 8 years ago.

“The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has reported a dramatic increase in tick-borne illnesses in Alabama. The ADPH declared multiple counties endemic for Lyme disease in Alabama in 2015 and 2016.”

“Lack of early recognition, diagnosis, and treatment can result in permanent physical damage, therefore many Lyme patients are left disabled”

Proclamation By the Governor of Alabama WHEREAS, Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by spirochetal bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi. Scientists have identified more strains and species of Borrelia burgdorferi in the South than in the Northeast. Lyme borrelisosis and … Continued
