Last weekend I had the opportunity to participate in the Long Dance, brought into form by Joseph Rael. It was one of the hardest spiritual practices I have ever done. We made prayer flags and banners to set our intentions for ourselves, our ancestors, and our world. We entered into a sweat lodge to purify ourselves for the ceremony. Then we danced around a sacred fire all night to the sound of the drums. During this time, we could not speak or even make eye contact. We were there to pray together and to give away our precious energy for the people, that they may be lifted into the light. It challenged me on every level.
I gained a deep and pervasive humbling of my Spirit. There are so many people suffering on this planet right now. I lay my head down in a soft comfortable bed each night. I have food and clean water to drink. There are people who love and support me. When there’s so much “to do” to make the world a better place, folks get offended by prayer. But prayer is much more than wishful thinking. It is an alignment with the ones you pray for. To make it real, you must feel their suffering. You must suffer with the world, so you know in your heart what you are praying for and why.
I pray for freedom, for all of us, and I know why in every fiber of my being.
Thank you to the Long Dance, the leaders, the drummers, the dancers, and to my own human heart for bearing witness to the beauty and the pain of this life.
Love,
Jasper Moontree
