Our residents have been keeping the competition friendly lately, whether it's an enticing game of Bridge in our Private Dining Room, complete with panoramic views of the Cahaba River, or a lively gathering in the multipurpose Cahaba Cultural Center. When you’re surrounded by good friends and natural beauty, every hand you’re dealt feels like a winning one!

Purposeful living is at the heart of everything we do at Kirkwood! Our residents volunteer their time rolling newspapers to line cages for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Projects like this offer a wonderful way for our community to stay engaged and give back to the organizations that make Birmingham a better place for everyone—including our four-legged neighbors.

Last week, our Marketing Director, Sandi Hall, represented Kirkwood as a featured panelist at the Life Plan Marketing Summit in Charlotte! Sandi shared her expertise on two dynamic panels. The first tackled the current challenges and trends facing the senior living industry. During her second session, she highlighted the importance of strategic vision in expansion —using our beautiful cottages and campus renovations as a premier example of forward-thinking community design.

A winter wonderland in March? We'll take it! ❄️ Birmingham weather is always keeping us on our toes, but we aren't complaining about this cozy view. There’s nothing quite like watching the snow fall while sitting by the fire, working on puzzles, and enjoying the company of good friends. It’s a slow, peaceful morning here at Kirkwood, and we are loving every minute of it!

It may be Friday the 13th, but at Kirkwood, we feel like the luckiest community around!

This week, we had the joy of celebrating our residents with March birthdays. Monthly community-wide birthday parties are a highlight at Kirkwood, made even more special by our wonderful friends from Independent Presbyterian Church.

For years, IPC volunteers have brought so much light to Kirkwood by hosting these monthly birthday celebrations. From the sweet treats to the even sweeter fellowship, it’s a beautiful reminder of the deep roots and "Kirkwood spirit" that started as a ministry of IPC more than 45 years ago.

Who says physical therapy has to stay indoors? ☀️ With this gorgeous weather, our therapy team took advantage of the sunshine to move a session out onto our beautiful walking trails. There is something incredibly healing about the fresh air and the sights and sounds of the river while working toward your wellness goals.

We love seeing our residents get outside, get moving, and enjoy the stunning "backyard" we’re so lucky to have on our spacious campus!

A familiar face and a faithful message. ✨🙏 We were so blessed to welcome back our former Chaplain (of 20+ years!), The Rev. Richard Hanna, as our guest preacher yesterday. Two years after his retirement, it was a morning filled with old memories and new inspiration. Once a part of the Kirkwood family, always a part of the Kirkwood family!

"I had the joy of leading worship, visiting with residents, and sharing fellowship and great food with some pretty special people," Rev. Hanna shares. "Kirkwood truly is a place of love."

This month, Kirkwood residents spent a night on the town at the BJCC for Riverdance 30 — The New Generation! This production celebrated the show’s 30th anniversary with innovative choreography, updated costumes, and cutting-edge lighting, projection, and motion graphics — all brought to life by a new generation of exceptional performers.

Cultural experiences like these are part of the tapestry of life at Kirkwood. We encourage residents to take part in new experiences within and outside our campus. We are grateful to live in a city of opportunity, to have adventurous residents, and to have staff that is dedicated to our residents' desire to live life vibrantly!
