One of our holiday traditions at Kirkwood is an amaryllis planting party! Our residents spent a joyful afternoon planting amaryllis bulbs, getting ready for a spectacular burst of color just in time for the holidays! This wonderful activity is a lovely reminder that even in the quiet of winter, beauty is preparing to bloom. We can’t wait to watch these festive flowers grow!

As we move closer to the holidays, let us anchor our hearts in hope and eternal gratitude. We are reminded of Paul’s powerful instruction in 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Our hope and gratitude is drawn from the steadfast faithfulness of God. We are God’s children. We know God loves us, God cares for us, and God wants us to live in joy.

The spirit of giving is strong at Kirkwood! 🧡 Our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive was a success, thanks to the incredible generosity of our residents! We collected canned and dry goods for the Independent Presbyterian Church Birmingham, Alabama Food Pantry, helping stock shelves for our Birmingham neighbors this holiday season. This is one of two annual drives we host for IPC, so be ready to share your generosity again in the spring! Each month, we celebrate our residents with one big birthday party! Our November Birthday Celebration was particularly meaningful as we also held a special Veterans Day Program to honor the heroes who live here at Kirkwood.

We shared patriotic music, enjoyed delicious snacks and beverages, and were deeply moved by the patriotic readings delivered by our own residents. It was an inspiring afternoon of reflection and community! Thank you to all the volunteers who host this fantastic celebration each month!

Happy National Take a Hike Day! 🌳 At Kirkwood, we believe a hike can be anything from a brisk walk on one of our trails to a peaceful, leisurely stroll through our beautiful community grounds. Located on 120 acres on the Cahaba River, we have plenty of opportunities for residents to get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and appreciate the beauty of nature.
