Over the last few days, several members of our GME and program leadership had the opportunity to attend the 2026 ACGME Annual Educational Conference in San Diego! The theme of this year’s meeting was “Meaning in Medicine” and remembering the importance of sustaining purpose and joy in the work we all do as members of the GME community. We are excited to come back and share all we learned!

Baptist Health’s Graduate Medical Education program would like to invite you to attend one of our “Virtual Recruiting Sessions”, in which we will share information about our four residency programs – Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology and Transitional Year.

You have three opportunities to attend via Zoom. The sessions will include information from our Executive Director, Recruiter/Housestaff Coordinator and four Program Coordinators, along with current residents from each of the four residency programs.

The dates/times for the Zoom sessions are:
Thursday, August 21st, 6:30pm – 7:30pm CENTRAL Time
Thursday, August 28th, 6:30pm – 7:30pm CENTRAL Time
Thursday, September 4th, 6:30pm – 7:30pm CENTRAL Time

Please choose the night that best fits your schedule and plan to spend some time with us.

This morning our residents got to participate in our quarterly Multidisciplinary Grand Rounds conference. Dr. Lee Ocuin, Surgical Oncologist, joined us from Jefferson Health to lead a discussion on “Surgical Management and Regional Therapy for Colorectal Liver Metastases”. His talk was followed by case presentations from Dr. Sam Douglas, one of our Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeons. Thank you to Dr. Douglas for organizing this presentation and to Dr. Ocuin for speaking with our residents and faculty!

Yesterday, residents from our Internal Medicine and Transitional Year programs hosted a well-being event at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society! Such a fun way to spend the afternoon!🦮🐾

We are excited to welcome a new class of VCOM medical students to our program! They will spend the next two years with us completing their clinical rotations. We’re thrilled to have them join us and look forward to seeing all that they accomplish!
