Scarred Scripts: The Tale of Jeremy Counts
In the ruthless world of pharmacy, where PBMs ruled like corporate mobsters, Jeremy Counts fought to keep his independent pharmacy, Counts Family Pharmacy, alive. His motto, “You can count on care,” was more than words—it was a promise to his community.
But PBMs had other plans. “Ninety days for pennies, plus DIR fees!” Jeremy fumed as customers fled to chains. At night, he’d sip “Amoxicillin brandy” (cheap whiskey) and dream of rebellion.
When losses piled up, Jeremy formed The Rx Resistance, an underground network of pharmacy owners. Together, they plotted to expose PBM schemes, dispute fees, and rally public support.
Their defiance gained momentum, prompting PBMs to retaliate with audits and slashed reimbursements. In a final stand, Jeremy stormed the PBM HQ with invoices in hand, sparking national attention. Patients and lawmakers rallied behind him.
Though the fight wasn’t over, Jeremy’s resilience lit a fire in the industry. “They wanted to crush us,” he’d say with a wink, filling another prescription. “But I control the scripts.”
