Bobby E. Hill, M.D., of Tuscaloosa, age 78 peacefully departed this life on Friday, February 23, 2024 at home, surrounded by his wife and children. Bobby was born and raised in Bessemer, Alabama, the third of six children, to his loving
parents, the late Clyde G. and Hannah (McAdory) Hill.

He confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Educated in the Jefferson County School System and graduating from Brighton High School in 1964, he continued his education at Tennessee State University, in Nashville, TN, earning his Bachelor of Science in 1968. After graduation he started his career as a teacher where he taught Junior and Senior High School Science for the Hale County School System in Hale County, AL.

Recognizing the need for African American Physicians in the underserved rural communities, Bobby decided to enroll at Meharry Medical College, in Nashville, TN, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) in 1977. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa, followed by a brief term as a staff physician with the former West Alabama Health Services, in Eutaw, AL.

On June 25, 1979, Bobby united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Roxie, in Birmingham, AL. To this union, Jahana, Iris, and Bobby Jr. were born.

In 1981, he opened his private family medicine practice, becoming the second Black medical doctor to practice in Tuscaloosa. Bobby E. Hill M.D., P.C., became a thriving private practice that he managed with his wife, Roxie, providing primary medical care to families in Tuscaloosa and surrounding counties in addition to caring for the mentally ill at Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility. Bobby continued his spiritual guidance and service with the Bailey Tabernacle C.M.E. Church, under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Willie Clyde Jones, where he enjoyed serving as a Sunday School teacher. He was also a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., initiated into the Kappa Chapter (Meharry Medical College) in the Spring of 1975. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising cattle. Beloved by his patients, he believed in providing compassionate care and quality healthcare services. He was a firm believer in entrepreneurship and was instrumental in supporting and encouraging many in the West Alabama community and throughout the Southeast to become entrepreneurs. He believed in sharing his knowledge and was passionate about imparting his wisdom upon young eager minds. Today, Dr. Hill’s family medicine practice continues to thrive under the management of his daughter, Dr. Jahana Hill.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia “Tit” Hill, and his brothers, Clyde Wayne “Pooze” Hill and Ronald “Catman” Hill. He is survived by his loving wife, Roxie; daughters, Jahana Hill, M.D. (Tuscaloosa, AL) and Iris T. Hill, M. Sc. (Los Angeles, CA); son, Bobby E. Hill Jr., Esq. (Atlanta, GA); a cherished grandson Noah Ladson; brother Anthony Hill; sister Maxine (Alvin) Johnson (Bessemer); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
