Today, Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing unveiled a portrait of Nena F. Sanders, Ph.D., to be displayed alongside Ida V. Moffett.
Sanders, who became dean in 2001, led the nursing school through significant growth in programs, scholarship and enrollment. In 2013, she was named the founding vice provost of Samford’s College of Health Sciences, where she oversaw the launch of new schools in public health and health professions.
Following her retirement in 2020, the school was renamed Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing in recognition of her lasting impact. She is a member of the American Academy of Nursing, the Alabama Nursing Hall of Fame and a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice.
The portrait was painted by Birmingham artist Carter Laney.
