SMA is going Red for Women and joining the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day today to spotlight women’s heart health and raise awareness about cardiovascular disease. Heart disease and stroke are responsible for about 1 in 3 women’s deaths each year, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined.

The Go Red for Women initiative encourages everyone to wear red, learn about heart disease risks, and take proactive steps toward heart-healthy living. Learn more at heart.org or GoRedforWomen.org

Our Story

The Southern Medical Association was founded in 1906 as a scientific body of physicians dedicated to fostering the art and science of medicine through education. SMA Members’ commitment to multidisciplinary, interprofessional education has endured for over 100 years.

Since 1906, members have supported SMA’s mission through membership, donations, publishing, speaking, or directing educational programming. This support has been used to create thousands of hours of educational programming, the publication of more than 45,000 scientific peer-reviewed journal articles in the Southern Medical Journal, and investments of millions of dollars supporting scientific research grants and medical student scholarships.

Our Mission

To improve quality of patient care through multidisciplinary, interprofessional education.
