September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.
It’s important to check in on our friends and loved ones, including those who may seem well adjusted or look like they’re doing fine.
Encourage them to reach out if they’re struggling, they are not alone. 💚

College can be an overwhelming time, new responsibilities, new people, and an increased course load. 😖
When feeling overwhelmed there are tools you can utilize though. 🔨
One example is the RAIN mindfulness technique which we’re exploring in this week’s Mindful Monday! 💧😌

This Wellness Wednesday we are spotlighting meditation! 🧘
Body scans are a form of meditation where a person focuses on each body part, observing how it feels, and then relaxing it. 🌸
This can calm the mind, reduce stress, and promote awareness of the present moment. ✨

When busy we can forget some important things.
It's important to remember these simple things; taking care of yourself and being kind to yourself. ✨

Happy Mindful Monday! 🐲
I want us to take a minute and be mindful of what we're really feeling. It can be hard to notice our feelings when our lives are so busy, especially with the new semester, so I want us all to really check in with ourselves.
Once we've done that, we can identify our needs and what is holding us down. Stay mindful Blazers! 💚

Last Wellness Wednesday we talked about setting boundaries with others, this week I want to look at the boundaries we have with ourselves.
Setting boundaries with yourself is important for well being, self respect, and healthy relationships. 🌼
It can reduce stress, enhance self esteem, and allow for better focus and productivity. ⭐

Affirmations are a common, simple practice
where a person repeatedly states positive things about
themselves. 💚
Affirmations help shift your mindset, build self
confidence, and promote wellbeing. 🌟

Happy Mindful Monday Blazers! 🧠
Mindfulness can help you respond to situations and manage your emotions but there are still some things we can and can't control.
Focusing on what we can control and letting our grip relax on what we can't allows us to pour our energy into productive practices that better ourselves and our lives. 🐲

Mental health counseling is a unique relationship in which a therapist walks beside you, listens to your story without judgement, and offers tailored support.
Sometimes counseling may be short. It may help you to learn concrete skills to improve relationships, reduce stress, increase productivity or to improve other symptoms that have a negative impact on your life. Counseling can also give support during a challenging transition or life event. Sometimes counseling is longer term, and we may work together to improve a specific disorder, trauma, or targeted area in your life.
Whatever reason you have to seek counseling, we are here for you, UAB students!
UAB Student Counseling Services offers students of all backgrounds, races, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, ethnicities, and cultures a safe place to discuss and resolve issues that interfere with personal and academic goals.
Our direct support to students includes individual, couple, and group counseling options, as well as prevention and outreach services, crisis and emergency support, and consultation services. Last year, over 6,000 UAB students utilized counseling on campus.
