Congratulations to the PWAs who are now Mental Health First Aiders! These dedicated students spent last Friday with us, learning how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, along with practical ways they can help others in need.

We’re so proud of the ways our Blazer community promotes the importance of mental health, and we’re very grateful for student leaders who carry what they learn in our trainings into their classrooms, student organizations, and workplaces.

If you would like to begin learning more about mental health resources available at UAB, join the Mental Health Advocate course on Canvas or register on Engage to join us at our next MHFA training on February 7th at 8:30am in the Student Health & Wellness Center, Wellness Promotion Classroom.

Today we celebrated our Fall 2025 Mental Health Fellows as well as our graduate clinical & undergraduate non-clinical interns for their hours of service this semester! 💚

Mental Health Fellows are students who have completed all three levels of the university-wide certification program, including an overview of digital tools and platforms, QPR Su***de Prevention, and Mental Health First Aid.

Why Counseling?

Mental health counseling is a unique relationship in which a therapist walks beside you, listens to your story without judgement, and offers tailored support.

Sometimes counseling may be short. It may help you to learn concrete skills to improve relationships, reduce stress, increase productivity or to improve other symptoms that have a negative impact on your life. Counseling can also give support during a challenging transition or life event. Sometimes counseling is longer term, and we may work together to improve a specific disorder, trauma, or targeted area in your life.

Whatever reason you have to seek counseling, we are here for you, UAB students!

UAB Student Counseling Services offers students of all backgrounds, races, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, ethnicities, and cultures a safe place to discuss and resolve issues that interfere with personal and academic goals.
