Beginning at the close of business on Friday, July 25, access to the 7th Avenue Parking Deck at 16th Street from University Blvd. will be closed for construction. The closure will be in place through the end of the year. Access to the 7th Avenue Parking Deck for clinic appointments in the McWane, Dearth, and Lowder buildings will remain open and accessible on 16th Street South from 7th Avenue South only. After a fall while playing football, 10-year-old Joseph was diagnosed with osteosarcoma — a rare bone cancer. After six cycles of chemotherapy and a life-changing rotationplasty surgery, he’s now cancer-free and thriving at 12 years old!

His family shares: "Those nurses and nurse practitioners cared deeply for our son and became his caregivers and friends. We share our lives with them. They explained things, they consoled us, and they encouraged us. Children’s was an unexpected jewel for us."

Experts say vehicular heatstroke can occur at any time, but it is more likely to happen during the summer months.

On average, 37 children die per year due to vehicular heatstroke. Parked cars get hot very fast, even on a nice day. Always remember to check the back seat and never leave your child in the car. If you see a child alone in a car, take action and call 911. Learn more:

From struggling to walk at just 5 years old to thriving in baseball and karate, Whitman Sapp has come a long way.

Whitman's journey with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) began with what seemed like “just growing pains.” But when illness after illness and severe joint pain took over, his family knew something more was going on.

Thanks to the expert care at Children’s of Alabama and support from Children’s Harbor Family Center, the family found answers and hope. Now, weekly injections are part of life, but he handles them like a pro.
