Congratulations to Kenny Tingle for being Children's first recipient of the PHIL Award for Outstanding Respiratory Therapists! The PHIL Award honors the ‘unsung heroes’ in the respiratory therapy profession who understand that each breath matters. Children's of Alabama takes pride in implementing the PHIL Award program to honor respiratory therapists.

"I have many stories with Kenny. He saved my daughter's life twice, and was a light for me. Every time I got to see him, my day would be a little better. As a parent who lived at Children's on and off for 11 months, it means more than I can put into words. Kenny would always take the time to come check on us."

Cheering on your favorite team means cheering on Children's of Alabama! Chick-fil-A Picks for Kids program donates $1,000 to The Charity League Hearing & Speech Clinic at Children’s for any interception made by The Crimson Tide or Auburn Tigers.

Every interception helps the clinic provide comprehensive evaluation and therapy services for children requiring inpatient and outpatient audiology and speech-language treatment.

Congratulations to Al Bonds, 9 Quarterback, for receiving the DAISY Award!

"Al has taken care of my son over 2 different stays and has left a lasting positive impression on us. Both stays, his scavenger hunts around the unit gave him motivation to get up and move around. Bringing joy and distraction from pain after surgery. Al was always cheerful, calm, and patient with him, even when he wasn’t at his best. He had a way of making him, and us, comfortable and feel empowered."

Today, Anders and his family were able to meet Charlie, the donor who saved his life through a blood stem cell transplant.💛

At just 18 months old, Anders received the transplant that changed everything. Because of Charlie, Anders is now thriving. “A bone marrow donor changed our lives,” Anders' mom said. “We are finally starting to get back to normal.”

Meet Anders! Today, he will meet the donor who saved his life during a National Marrow Donor Program Registry Drive at the hospital.

Every year, 18,000 patients are diagnosed with life-threatening blood cancers or diseases for which a blood stem cell transplant may be the patient’s best or only hope for a cure. Seventy percent of patients don’t have a fully matched donor in their family. You can be someone’s one in a million by joining the donor registry.

You can also order a free swab kit by visiting my.nmdp.org/s/join or texting “ChildrensAL” to 61474. Only people between the ages of 18 and 40 can join the registry.

Meet Margaret Anne! 👋💛

She was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor in 2017 after a chance discovery during a routine procedure. She had her right kidney removed and was cancer-free until 2022, when a second tumor was found on her left kidney. After undergoing chemotherapy and surgery, she made a strong recovery.

Margaret Anne showed incredible courage, starting kindergarten during treatment and openly sharing her story with classmates. Now thriving, Margaret Anne enjoys cheerleading and dreams of helping others as a future healthcare professional.

Children's of Alabama joined Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers employees to celebrate the success of their annual "Changing Oil, Changing Lives" campaign back in April. This year, over $126,000 was raised to help fund the Art and Expressive Therapy Program, which our patients can participate in meaningful art and music activities.
