💚
Just recently, I celebrated my 100th counseling session. It is something I’m enormously proud of. We even celebrated that day - I brought us both a coffee from the place next door and we took this photo.
I can unequivocally state that without Dr. Juliana Nevland’s help, I would not be Still Standing, in the way I am almost seven years post-AE and after almost five years of rigorous counseling sessions.
Along with the medication I accepted that I’d need (maybe even for life), Dr. Nev’s ability to listen; to offer practical advice, coping mechanisms, and tips; her ability to help me reframe and process; and her general awesomeness, has helped me move mountains. (So have my family, friends, activity, exercise, and sunlight.)
I had initially bought into the silly notion of (self-induced of course) therapy’s shame or weakness, and was silent for months about going to counseling. I finally broke free from that and tell any and everyone: Mental health is important, I use medication, and I’m SO PROUD to go to counseling, as it’s been amazing!
In 2024, a Ketamine fueled billionaire narcissist (we’ll call him “Leon”) said, “Put ‘Never Went to Therapy’ on my gravestone.” Not only is that stupid, it’s reckless for the 64 million people who’ve viewed it on his crappy platform, X.
Cheers to 100 session and possibly hundreds more! Counseling only helps me be a better person and improved me. (Leon can definitely afford it, he really should give it a whirl.)
