A study on spinal surgery patients! Half of the patients are getting standard pain management. The other half are getting pain management guided by pharmacogenomics (PGx). The results are promising!
From the study:
Early results have been encouraging, according to Adogwa. In fact, patients in the genotyping arm already have experienced shorter hospital stays, tending to leave the hospital within three days after surgery, compared to five days in the standard care arm. Patients in the PGx arm have also reported superior pain control and have a shorter duration of opioid use versus the comparator arm.
"It's incredible," Adogwa said, noting that he would like to see PGx-informed pain management become part of standard care after surgery.
Early results have shown that patients in the PGx-guided care arm have shorter hospital stays compared to those getting standard care.
