Tinnitus — some say TIN-it-is… some say tin-EYE-tis. You do you.
Tinnitus is when you experience ringing or other noises in one or both of your ears. The noise you hear when you have tinnitus isn't caused by an external sound, and other people usually can't hear it. Tinnitus is a common problem. It affects about 15% to 20% of people, and is especially common in older adults.
This is an especially common symptom in our patients. Often head/neck injury, post virus, jaw clenching, and simply “stress” can cause this phantom sound to appear and cause distress. In some cases, we have found myofascial release helpful to decrease the sound, as it takes away the fascial pressure and calms the central nervous system.
I (Shawna) have tinnitus. I had covid several years back. I also unfortunately hit my head that week, super unlucky 😆. Whichever it was, it left me with some intense high pitched ringing that is constantly with me. As my body has healed over the years, it has remained. I’ve tried numerous remedies, therapy approaches, consulted with ENT etc. I’m about to embark on the newest one, and wanted to share my journey with you all.
This week I will begin Lenire training. Feel free to google it for now 😜. I will post more about it as I dive into it. I’m excited to try it and hopeful it may help.
For those of you who have experienced tinnitus… how do YOU pronounce it? And what has helped it in your personal story?
