Why I will always start with Footwork

Footwork is one of the foundational Reformer exercises in the Pilates repertoire.

Promoting proper foot mechanics helps strengthen the intrinsic muscles of the feet. This creates a stable base of support and improves overall balance

Improved circulation and coordination between the breath, core and limbs to lead to controlled movements. These elements work together to enhance body awareness

Establishing a strong foundation for alignment and movement efficiency prepares the body for the rest of the session. This ensures greater stability and precision in every exercise that follows.

Your Sunday Reset Doesn’t Need To Be Perfect. Just Intentional. đŸ«¶

Here are 3 gentle reminders as you head into a new week:

Reset your body - Recovery is productive.

Reset your mind - Even 5 minutes can shift everything.

Prepare your week - With intention, not perfection

Give yourself what you truly need — not what others say you should be doing đŸ€

I always try to put myself in the client’s shoes during the first session. Walking into an unfamiliar space can feel overwhelming.

Session 1: My first priority is to make you feel safe and welcomed. I guide exercises that feel comfortable while still offering a gentle challenge. This gives me a chance to learn about your body, what feels strong, and what could be improved.

Session 2: Building on what I learned in our first session about your strengths and areas for improvement. I can now introduce exercises that engage muscles you don’t typically use. By using your foundation from Session one, we can safely explore new movements that challenge your body in different ways and help you continue progressing.

Session 3: Now that we’ve explored new muscles in Session two, we’ll take the movements you’ve done well and add small variations to keep challenging your body and helping you progress.

Pilates + Strength
Do you weight train?

Over the past few years, I’ve been exploring my fitness routine and realized that I enjoy challenging myself in the gym while also appreciating the efficiency of a Pilates workout. Combining both has not only reduced soreness and the risk of injury but also strengthened the smaller muscles that are often overlooked in weight training.

Combining both practices has made my body feel stronger and more balanced. I want you to experience that natural movement and connection with your body. My DMs are always open and I’d love to chat with you about your fitness journey! â˜șïžđŸ€

You won’t see these in the mirror
but they’re some of the most powerful benefits of Pilates

It’s not just about the aesthetic— Pilates transforms your body, feels, functions, and supports you in everyday life.

Here are 4 ways to show up beyond your reflection:

Over the past couple of months here are two ways I have seen progress in my clients! â˜ș

Flexibility and Range of Motion: The feet in straps exercise really shows how my clients are deepening their practice.Their ability to maintain hip stability in this position shows increased body control and flexibility.

Body Awareness: It’s amazing when clients self-correct misalignments before I even cue them. That shows a real deepening of their practice and body awareness

✹ Let's Talk Pilates ✹

What is STOTT Pilates?

STOTT Pilates emphasizes anatomical alignment and spine rehabilitation, where we apply modern-day exercise science to restore the natural curve and rebalance the muscles surrounding our joints. It is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method, making it one of the safest and most effective methods available. This method benefits rehab patients, elite athletes, and prenatal clients who will all see a difference. Some approaches may promote a flat back, whereas STOTT Pilates exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and rebalance the muscles around the joints. 💛

Pilates is gentle and controlled with no sudden jarring actions. STOTT Pilates exercise is a musculoskeletal condition program. It's ideal in combination with some kind of cardiovascular exercise ( walking, running, aerobics, aqua fitness, etc.), and a great complement to your weight training program or athletic training. đŸ’Ș đŸ§˜â€â™€ïž

The benefits of pilates include building core strength and stability, improving postural alignment, increasing balance, flexibility, and strength, increasing endurance and muscular tone, preventing injury and heightened body awareness, enhancing athletic performance, and relieving stress and back pain. To focus on training your brain and muscles to connect optimal alignment, dive deeper into STOTT Pilates and discover all that you're capable of. đŸ’«

Our Story

Cathy Deics has been a nutrition and fitness professional since 1990. Her career has taken her from her local gym (Kandi Kourts, owned by Peter Tauton, founder of Anytime Fitness) to her college freshman job where she was among the first in the nation to obtain a fitness certification (American Council on Exercise) to lead Concordia College professors in a noon exercise class. This led to dry land (or off court) training of Concordia College athletic teams (and consequent introduction to her spouse Rob of 27 years) and a popular 5 pm exercise class in the basement of her dormitory Hoyum Hall. Upon graduating with degrees in Nutrition and Exercise Science, she has held collaborative nutrition and fitness positions at Bally’s US Swim and Fitness (St. Paul, MN) Regions Hospital (formally St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center), Fit ‘n Firm and Salvation Grace Hospital (Winnipeg, MB Canada) Gold’s Gym and Sanford Hospital (formally Dakota Hospital) (Fargo, ND), Aberdeen Family YMCA and Avera St. Luke’s (formally St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center) (Aberdeen, SD) to current Vibra Hospital of The Central Dakotas (Mandan, ND) and her own private studio, www.mycoachcathy.com She has maintained numerous certifications in both nutrition and fitness by participating and leading continuing education programs throughout the world. As a life-long learner and leader of exemplifying a healthy lifestyle, she is currently pursuing medicine (MD) to further enhance the services she can offer to those who work with her.
