if your ribs are popping and your chest is lifting in class… let’s pause

That kind of breath can push pressures upward, build stress + tension, disconnect core, and make movement feel harder than it is needs to be.

Instead think of expanding the rib cage posteriorly and laterally on the inhale, and then a deep exhale that wraps the deep core in for support… that’s the sweet spot

Small shift. Big difference.
Your body will thank you later

Low back pain doesn’t always need more stretching - it needs stability.

This STOTT inspired reformer flow focuses on neutral spine, deep core activation and controlled movement to support your lumbar spine the right way

Save this for your next back-care session

Every foot position on the Reformer activates different muscles. Here’s a breakdown of what you’re really working. 💭

◽️Toes on bar —> activates the calves, quads and foot muscles
◽️Running stretch —> stretches the calves and hamstrings while training balance
◽️Toes apart heels together —> work adductors and deep hip rotators
◽️Heels on bar —> activates glutes and supports hip stability
◽️Second position —> challenges hip mobility and control

Why I will always start with Footwork…

Footwork is one of the foundational Reformer exercises in the Pilates repertoire.

Promoting proper foot mechanics helps strengthen the intrinsic muscles of the feet. This creates a stable base of support and improves overall balance

Improved circulation and coordination between the breath, core and limbs to lead to controlled movements. These elements work together to enhance body awareness

Establishing a strong foundation for alignment and movement efficiency prepares the body for the rest of the session. This ensures greater stability and precision in every exercise that follows.

Your Sunday Reset Doesn’t Need To Be Perfect. Just Intentional. 🫶

Here are 3 gentle reminders as you head into a new week:

Reset your body - Recovery is productive.

Reset your mind - Even 5 minutes can shift everything.

Our Story

Cathy Deics has been a nutrition and fitness professional since 1990. Her career has taken her from her local gym (Kandi Kourts, owned by Peter Tauton, founder of Anytime Fitness) to her college freshman job where she was among the first in the nation to obtain a fitness certification (American Council on Exercise) to lead Concordia College professors in a noon exercise class. This led to dry land (or off court) training of Concordia College athletic teams (and consequent introduction to her spouse Rob of 27 years) and a popular 5 pm exercise class in the basement of her dormitory Hoyum Hall. Upon graduating with degrees in Nutrition and Exercise Science, she has held collaborative nutrition and fitness positions at Bally’s US Swim and Fitness (St. Paul, MN) Regions Hospital (formally St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center), Fit ‘n Firm and Salvation Grace Hospital (Winnipeg, MB Canada) Gold’s Gym and Sanford Hospital (formally Dakota Hospital) (Fargo, ND), Aberdeen Family YMCA and Avera St. Luke’s (formally St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center) (Aberdeen, SD) to current Vibra Hospital of The Central Dakotas (Mandan, ND) and her own private studio, www.mycoachcathy.com She has maintained numerous certifications in both nutrition and fitness by participating and leading continuing education programs throughout the world. As a life-long learner and leader of exemplifying a healthy lifestyle, she is currently pursuing medicine (MD) to further enhance the services she can offer to those who work with her.
