Could scoliosis be missed? 👀

It’s actually more common to detect it late than to misdiagnose it.

That’s because early signs can be subtle, and easy to overlook.

Things like:
👉 Uneven shoulders or hips
👉 One side of the ribcage more prominent
👉 A slight lean or imbalance
👉 Changes in posture or movement

💡 The key is this: Scoliosis is progressive, and growth can make it worse over time.

That’s why early detection matters. The earlier it’s identified, the more options there are to manage it effectively.

Don’t wait for pain. Many cases, especially in kids, are painless.

Can scoliosis affect your breathing? 🫁

Not always. Most mild cases don’t cause issues, but in more severe curves, it can.

Why?
Because the spine and ribcage are connected.
As the curve progresses, it can:
👉 Shift the ribcage
👉 Reduce space for the lungs
👉 Make deep breathing harder

💡 Key takeaway:
Breathing issues are usually linked to progression, not early stages.

That’s why early detection and proactive care matter.
📩 Not sure if yours is progressing? Get it checked.

Not all scoliosis is the same.
There are two main types, and knowing the difference matters.

👉 Structural scoliosis:
A true scoliosis where the spine curves and rotates.
It’s 3D and doesn’t change with posture.

👉 Functional scoliosis: A temporary curve caused by things like:
• Poor posture
• Muscle imbalance
• Leg length differences

The key difference?
Functional scoliosis can improve when the cause is addressed.
Structural scoliosis needs more specific, targeted care.

💡 Early understanding can make a big difference.
👉 Notice changes in posture or asymmetry? Check it early.

Your spine isn’t meant to be straight.

From the side view, it has natural curves, like lordosis (the inward curve in your neck and lower back) that help you stay balanced, move well, and absorb daily stress.

When that curve changes:

• Too much (hyperlordosis) → your spine arches too far
• Too little (hypolordosis) → your spine becomes too flat

Both can affect posture, movement, and cause pain.

💡 Small changes can make a big difference over time.

The Back in Balance Challenge was created to help people build awareness of everyday posture and movement habits.

But for many people — especially those living with scoliosis — awareness is only the first step.

Scoliosis is not just a posture habit.
It’s a three-dimensional spinal condition that often requires more specific, guided care.

That’s where ScoliBalance comes in.

ScoliBalance is ScoliCare’s clinician-led, evidence-based program, designed to support people with scoliosis through tailored strategies that improve:

• Posture
• Strength
• Breathing
• Spinal control

If the Back in Balance challenge helped you notice something feels uneven, restricted, or “not quite right”, it may be time to take the next step.

A comprehensive spinal assessment can help you understand what’s happening and what support may help moving forward.

Posture habits don’t appear overnight.
They show up in small everyday patterns:

📱 how you hold your phone
🎒 how you carry your bag
🪑 how you sit at your desk
🪞 what you notice in the mirror

Most of the time, we don’t realise these patterns are happening.

This card is your reminder to pause and notice.

Because awareness is the first step to supporting your spine.

Can bad posture cause scoliosis? 🤔
Short answer: No.

But here’s what you should know 👇
Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves and rotates — and while poor posture doesn’t cause it, postural changes are often the earliest sign.

👀 What to look for:
• Uneven shoulders
• One hip higher than the other
• Rib cage sticking out on one side
• A visible lean

These subtle changes can be easy to miss — especially in kids.
✨ Why it matters: Scoliosis is progressive, especially during growth. The earlier it’s detected, the better the outcomes.

👉 If you’ve noticed changes in posture, don’t wait. Early assessment can make a big difference.
