You don't need me to tell you about the healing qualities of nature and being in the mountains. What you may need, however, is a reminder to get out there and engage your senses mindfully. 🌿

Let's do some self reflection. How do you feel when someone is trying to control you? Does it increase your compliance with what that person is trying to get you to do? Does it make you feel warm and fuzzy about that person? If you're like me, the answers to those questions are probably "no." As the adults in the situation, it's our job to exercise our emotional regulation skills when our kiddos are struggling. This models appropriate behavior and helps the conversation to be immensely more productive.

Despite all of your past struggles, here you are. It's worth taking a moment to reflect on the fact that you have a 100% success rate for overcoming barriers so far in your life. One hundred percent! Next time you face a barrier or struggle, hopefully this thought comes to mind. 🌿

Sometimes in the midst of a crisis it can seem as if there's no end, that you can't remember what it felt like when you were healthy, or that things will never improve. In those moments, I encourage you to have hope, and know that nothing lasts forever. Hang in there.

Oof, did this one hit home for anyone else? One common symptom of trauma is staying busy in order to avoid thinking about or having feelings about what happened. This method of coping may work for a while, but it's not sustainable long-term. If you have some open wounds, I encourage you to create time to slow down and seek support in healing.

We can't all have been fortunate enough to come from a healthy and stable home. If you zoom out and look at anyone's family tree, you'll start to see patterns emerge - some good, some not so great. We tend to recreate what we're used to, what is our "normal." The good news is that you don't have to repeat those patterns. It can be challenging, but YOU can be the one to end unhealthy behaviors or trauma in your family. The first step is embracing vulnerability and being willing to look closely to increase your awareness. The next step is learning new skills to create healthier patterns and implementing them over time. If this speaks to you and you want to be the change you wish to see in your family, know that you are strong, courageous, and future generations of your family will thank you whether they realize or not.

I couldn't find my spoon and ended up having to use this random tiny shovel to stir my coffee. 😂 I thought I'd share this as a small lesson in being flexible and going with the flow. Take this opportunity to think back on a time you exercised cognitive flexibility recently, and give yourself a pat on the back.

We are all the authors of our own stories and YOU get to decide the plot, setting, and characters. Who do you want to be in your story? Where do you want your story to occur? What do you want to happen in your story? If you're unhappy with how things have gone so far in your life story, what changes could be made? Let's put all of those elements together and see what happens!

When parenting (or working with kids in any fashion) gets hard, keep this quote in mind as a guide for your own behavior and you can’t go wrong. I’ve heard someone say once that a parent’s goal is to do better than their parents did, and to help their kids do better than themselves. Let’s take a moment to think about what our inner child needed, and how we can show up for the littles in our lives in that way. Perhaps it will be healing for them and for you too.

This one is worth reading twice. One of the first steps toward creating a happy, successful relationship is to first love yourself. Don't be afraid to buy yourself some roses this weekend or order yourself some take-out. 😉 You deserve it! Happy Valentine's Day. 💝
