Today I was reminded of the power of bodywork and healing. I say bodywork because, in most cases, it is more than the physical body. My client's face when she came in today was filled with agony, fear, uncertainty, frustration, and exhaustion. Pain will do that to you, leave you in a sympathetic state, emotionally drained, uncertain of what the body is doing, and exhausted from holding the space for discomfort. It took over 20 minutes to find a position where she could lie comfortably without seething in anguish. She cried with the slightest movement and even more because she had been in this state for days.
Together, we began breathing; while I tracked her body, I worked carefully in the areas where I was called to; I hummed a vibration that soothed her and used hot stones to allow her muscles to come out of a hypertonic state. I led her in guided imagery that brought in calming colors and images. I wrapped her in energy work and reiki and marma points that allowed her body to let go and release on so many levels, and within 45 minutes, she was fast asleep.
This type of work is multi-dimensional, and no two are the same. It's what I love to do, and although I may be leading coalitions or making a significant impact on global issues, I know that I can help one person at a time be free from suffering, even for just a little while...and that is pretty damn cool.
