Hello friends! Here's a fun way to share some of my favorite things from this last month or so, and a way to share a little bit about me.

1. I love flowers and photography, and if you were to look at my camera roll you'd find a ridiculous amount of photos of flowers, mushrooms, and little or big bits of nature from anywhere I've been. Like Hansel and Gretel leaving crumbs to find their way home, I have a trail of photos.

2. Take me to a waterfall, lets stroll beside a stream, smell the forest, see the leaves change...anything outside is where I want to be.

3. I learned how to make gluten free foccaccia, and then decorated it with chives from the small raised bed garden we have, and parsley and tomatoes from our Red Scout Farm CSA. This was so fun and satisfying. The texture of the bread dough, and the aroma of the herbs and tomatoes, pure harvest delight.

4. A Saturday morning jaunt to the Farmers Market for peaches, basil from the CSA again, gf baguette, prosciutto, and burrata from Trader Joe's, made a delightful easy dinner.

5. Three furry beasts rule our household now that we're empty nesters. Murphy is the youngest, and we're working hard on finding a "Play vs Quiet Time" life balance for him. But who can resist those sweet brown eyes?

What little moments of joy have you found in the last 6 weeks? And what do you look forward to as we move into cool crisp autumn weather?

We're beginning to transition from the harvest season of late summer into the early days of autumn and it's time to boost our immune systems.

Here are a couple of my favorite things for autumn:

1. Adding bone broth to soups, to cook rice, to saute veggies, or just to drink a mug of warm cozy broth with some spring onions. It's hearty and healing and perfect for this time of year.

2. Speaking of broth, soup season is almost here! Hydrating, nourishing, and full of warm cooked veggies and nutrients, soups are a mainstay in our household. I like to make a big pot that becomes leftovers throughout the week. Some of my favorites are Turkey Pumpkin Chili recipe on the Whole Foods website, and Eat Your Greens Detox Soup from the Oh She Glows blog/cookbook.

3. You know that pumpkin spice blend that gets so much attention? Well that spice blend is wonderful for your circulation, and your joints! Mix up your own batch of spices to sprinkle on oatmeal or add to warm drinks and keep your joints happy when we move into colder weather.

4. Get back to your immune boosting herbal formulas! With kids back to school, and new routines settling in, it's time to make sure you're taking an herbal support formula. Jade Windscreen is popular for adults and kids. Let me know if you want to pick some up from the office!

5. Schedule a seasonal tune up! If it's been a little while since you've been in, it's a great time to get a boost.

What are your favorite tools for getting ready for the fall season? 🍁

While the menopausal transition is entirely normal, it often comes with a range of challenging symptoms - including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and even weight gain. For many women, these symptoms can significantly impact the quality of life. As a result, many women are turning to alternative therapies, including acupuncture, to alleviate their symptoms.

When addressing menopause, acupuncture is believed to help regulate the body’s internal systems and restore hormonal balance. This, in turn, may alleviate the symptoms, and is well-tolerated with few side effects.

Acupuncture presents a promising option for women seeking relief from menopausal symptoms. Consider having a series of treatments of acupuncture if you are experiencing menopausal symptoms!

Allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to harmless substances such as pollen, dust, or certain foods. This overreaction triggers the release of histamines, leading to symptoms like sneezing, itching, runny nose, and swelling. The goal of acupuncture in treating allergies is to regulate the immune system and reduce the body’s hypersensitive response to allergens. Another way acupuncture is thought to help with allergies is by reducing inflammation.

Acupuncture offers a promising alternative or complementary approach for managing allergies, particularly for those seeking natural and holistic treatment options. The number of sessions required can vary depending on the severity of the allergies and the individual’s response to treatment. Some patients may experience relief after just a few sessions, while others may need ongoing treatment, especially during allergy season.

Bodies are wise - they want to be balanced, efficient and healthy. It requires less energy and resources to function that way. When illness or pain or fatigue presents itself, it's the body's way of saying "Something is out of whack here and I want you to know about it."

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help remind the body that it can work efficiently - in harmony and in health. It corrects problem-causing imbalances, and at a certain point the body takes over.

What I let patients know is that it has taken your body time to develop a pattern of imbalance, so it's going to take a bit of time and commitment to change that pattern. If digestive issues have been going on for nearly 10 years, they aren't just going to go away after one treatment.

I let my patients know healing is collaboration - the more we work on together, the faster we will get results. There is also a level of commitment - showing up for acupuncture, taking their herbs, doing their practical, fits-well-into-their life homework.

During our time working together, I help my patients develop a personalized toolbox they can use for the rest of their lives. If this is something that sounds like a good fit for you, I hope you reach out so we can have a bigger conversation. Call or text 828-357-7175 or book directly online. I look forward to getting to know you.

Post-Covid syndrome, anyone? Long Covid?

With cold and flu season here, it’s important to talk about the aftermath, not just the onset.

If you are experiencing some of these symptoms:
😷 Fatigue, feeling tired.
🤧 Weakness.
😶‍🌫️ Brain fog (problems concentrating or thinking)
😣 Headaches.
🫨 Tremor.
💓 Rapid or pounding heartbeat, feeling of skipped heartbeats (palpitations)
😵‍💫 Dizziness upon standing.

Your body needs some support in feeling its best. Sometimes that involves supporting your immune system so it can finish clearing a virus that has worn out it's welcome!

Link in the bio to schedule your free 15 minute consultation, or your initial consultation to get started on your journey to feeling better. Or give me a call or text at 828-357-7175, and we'll schedule a time to talk about how this medicine can help you.
