The reason behind my company name Avocation Therapy came up on the radio this morning, which I thought was a great explanation of the meaning of avocation: “These stories show the transformative power of human passion and the search for life long avocation. And that is literally a matter of life and death for all of us. And by that I mean we know that people who feel that they have a purpose in life live longer.”

We just wrapped up a fabulous 4 weeks of Minis and Me! We learned how to care for our miniature horse friends, as well as had fun making horse themed crafts and reading books about - you guessed it - horses! Be on the lookout for more Minis and Me opportunities coming this fall in Blacksburg.

It’s dinosaur week at CampAble this week! Today we made dinosaur tails, excavated dinosaurs from frozen ice eggs, and played dinosaur tail tag! 🦖 🦕☀️👩🏽‍🦼🌟

When you push yourself past your comfort zone, you will be rewarded by fun surprises! We came across this cute painted rock while on an accessible hike last week. 2.1 miles on the Park Hudson Trail finished up with smiles from this little blue ladybug. We’re also inspired to try painting our own rocks in another therapy session!

Building a business as an entrepreneur and community recreational therapist can be hard but having support from other entrepreneurs and rec therapists helps so much! and I connected online and finally got to meet in real life. Strong women lift each other up and I so appreciate Requel’s encouragement and support! I highly recommend networking and finding the online CTRS world if you’re navigating the solo entrepreneur journey.
