HIGHLIGHTING KATE BUSS, DPT

Kate Buss has been an integral part of Core Physical Therapy over the past three years. Kate is not only a gifted physical therapist, she is also an elite endurance athlete. She is a retired professional cyclist and now competes in triathlons and running races. She recently ran in and out of the Grand Canyon totaling 46 miles!

Kate also helps recreational and competitive cyclists with biking injuries and bike fitting. She has the expertise to understand the needs of the cyclist and the knowledge to help improve their bike fit in order to improve comfort and reduce changes of injuries.

We love Kate and all that she does for our community!!

We have so much fun with our "Strong to the Core" group!! The aim of our exercise program is to build stronger bones and educate the class on how to improve bone health through exercise and nutrition. Kate and Brenda just love teaching it. Sadie, our therapy dog, supports us.

I meant to send this awhile ago. I got to visit Morgan and her baby Elizabeth while in Richmond. As much as we miss her in Blacksburg, she is very happy in Richmond!!

I wanted to give a shout out to Kim Bassler, one of our physical therapists at Core Physical Therapy. Kim works with a lot of CrossFit athletes (she is also a CrossFit coach at 460) and also does pelvic floor for fitness athletes. She is amazing at what she does and we are so lucky to work with her.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A PT TO JOIN US!!

Core Physical Therapy is a PT-owned outpatient orthopedic physical therapy clinic located in Blacksburg VA (home of Virginia Tech) and we are in search of a licensed physical therapist to join our staff. Our case load includes many active individuals including Virginia Tech employees and students as well as local middle school and high school students and others in the community. Many of our clients come through direct access so we are their first line of defense. We treat a wide variety of orthopedic problems including sports injuries, post-surgical conditions, general orthopedic problems and vestibular conditions. It is a great place to learn. Several PT’s have earned or are studying for their OCS and all are dry needling certified. We treat a lot of runners and Cross Fit athletes. We stress continual learning with weekly educational meetings and in-house and out of clinic continuing education courses. All therapists have taken courses through ICE (Institute of Clinical Excellence) as well as other organizations. Our treatments include dry needling, mobilization, manipulation, soft tissue mobilization, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, myofascial decompression (cupping), blood flow restriction, etc. We are looking for a therapist who is a lifelong learner to complement our engaged and energetic team at Core. Our patient volume is intentionally low to spend more productive time with each patient. I went to the 10 year anniversary of "Hope to Walk" today in Blacksburg. This non-profit is amazing. They are located right next to the Drysdale Eye Center across from Lewis Gale Hospital. They provide legs (prosthetics) to those in impoverished countries, people who would never have the opportunity to walk again due to the expense of the prosthetics. I am planning to be an ambassador to help get the word out.

We are sorry to say goodbye to one of our PTs MaryKate but are really excited for her and her new adventure. She is moving to Savannah soon and is expecting a baby boy!! We are thrilled for her and her new life but are sad we won’t see her regularly anyon anymore
We welcome Michael Hall, DPT to our group!! He’s been with us for two weeks already and we are so happy to have him. Michael volunteered at Core before he went to PT school and we have been trying to get him to work with us ever since. He finally said YES!! Welcome Michael!!
