Emotional availability is the foundation of secure connection. If you're wondering whether you're truly showing up for your partner, here are five ways to deepen emotional presence and intimacy.

Setting boundaries isn’t rude — it’s respect. 🛑✨

Respect for your time.
Respect for your energy.
Respect for your mental health.

Too often we confuse boundaries with rejection — but the truth is, boundaries protect relationships by keeping them rooted in honesty instead of resentment.

💡 Saying “no” doesn’t make you selfish. It makes you clear.
And clarity is one of the greatest acts of self-respect.

At Berin Psych, we help you build boundaries you can feel good about — without guilt.

Emotional self-abandonment is the root of insecure attachment. It’s a consequence of being emotionally abandoned by others, usually during childhood by well-intentioned parents who learned to abandon their own emotions and just didn’t know how to adequately show up for yours. Love goes a long way, but it isn’t enough to instill emotional health in the same way love isn’t enough to create physical health.
All the relationship advice in the world won’t be enough to make your relationship thrive until you are able to show up for yourself emotionally. This is because the unhealed, abandoned parts of self will keep getting in your way. Don’t get me wrong, we all NEED others in life who can also show up for us, and having others show up for us can teach us to show up for self and support us in a way that makes healing much easier. But still, learning to show up for self must be a priority in order to make connection possible . ❤️

🌑 We all have parts of ourselves we’d rather hide — fears, mistakes, insecurities, regrets. But burying them doesn’t make them disappear.
When we pretend they’re not there, they often show up as anxiety, perfectionism, or self-criticism. The truth?
Healing starts when we stop running from our shadow and start understanding it.

Therapy is a safe space to face the parts of yourself you’ve been avoiding — with compassion, curiosity, and zero judgment. 💬

🪞 You don’t have to do it alone. Your shadow is part of you — but it doesn’t define you.

Joy is for everyone. 💛♿

Disability Pride isn’t just about awareness — it’s about celebrating community, connection, and the fullness of life.

Whether you’re rolling, walking, navigating with a guide dog, or moving through the world in your own way — you deserve access to joy, belonging, and rest.

This is what inclusion looks like. This is what pride feels like.

📣 Let’s continue to make space for ALL bodies, ALL minds, and ALL experiences — not just during Disability Pride Month, but always.

Summer break is half way through and it can be full of joy — but also full of overwhelm, for kids and caregivers.

No school means more unstructured time, shifting routines, and bigger emotional waves.

🧠 Some kids thrive in the freedom.
Others struggle without a rhythm to ground them.
Both are normal — and both deserve support.

💛 This summer, connection matters more than perfection.
Small check-ins. A steady bedtime. A moment to just play.

Need support? You don’t have to do it alone.

July is Disability Pride Month — a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity within the disability community, both visible and invisible.

Being different isn’t something to hide. It’s something to acknowledge, respect, and embrace.

Did you know approximately 10% of all disabilities in the US are ‘invisible’ disabilities? (Invisible disabilities are conditions that aren’t apparent at first glance but significantly impact daily life)

Let this month be a reminder:
✅ You don’t have to “look” disabled to deserve understanding and support.
✅ It’s okay to ask for what you need.
✅ Pride means showing up as you are — unapologetically.

Too many Black men are navigating mental health challenges in silence.

As therapists, caregivers, family, and advocates — we need to stop waiting for the “right words” and start creating the right conditions: safety, clarity, and culturally grounded care.

This work isn’t about fixing anyone.
It’s about showing up with presence, not performance.

🖤 Let’s break the cycle of being unseen. Let’s do better — together.

A child cannot regulate in a space that constantly dysregulates them.
They can’t calm down when surrounded by noise, stress, or pressure to “just behave.”
They can’t find stillness if their world never stops spinning.

And yet… we keep asking them to.

We expect emotional control in environments that offer no safety.
We demand composure without offering connection.
We tell them to “use their words” in homes that rarely pause to hear them.

But children weren’t made to adapt to chaos.
They were meant to grow in rhythm with peace.

Yes — they’ll build resilience.
But resilience is strongest when it’s rooted in regulation, not survival.

If we want them to thrive — we must first give them what the world won’t:
a nervous system that learns calm by being calmed,
a heart that feels safe being felt,
a mind that knows it’s okay to slow down.

Yes, the world will push.
Let home be the place they can exhale. ❤️
