This Mental Health Awareness month, Recovery at the Crossroads celebrates Simone Biles' advocacy of mental well-being in sports. By speaking openly about her mental health struggles, she has helped reduce stigma and encouraged others to ask for help. Thank you, Simone, for your tremendous contribution to minimizing the stigma around mental health issues!

Simone Biles explained that she wasn't in the right headspace following her shaky showing on vault to continue in the competition.

Schizophrenia affects more than 1% of the US population. Approximately half of individuals with schizophrenia have co-occurring mental and/or behavioral health disorders. Research also reveals a concerning relationship between cannabis use and schizophrenia.

Today, at RAC, we encourage clients and their families to learn the signs and symptoms of schizophrenia, understand how they impact lives, and discover how early help can make a big difference. We offer a range of outpatient addiction and mental health treatment services, including care for individuals with behavioral or process addictions. This year, let us end the stigma, provide support and advocate for our loved ones with mental illness.

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new Drumming Circle Group led by Tony Mascara, Jr., a holistic health practitioner and owner of The Audio Lab.

Nadine Talley MSW, LCSW, CTSS, our Clinical Director, explains: "Group drumming in mental health and recovery settings can offer meaningful therapeutic benefits by helping regulate the nervous system, stimulate the vagus nerve, and foster a sense of connection that supports healing." Clients in these sessions have reported improved mood, reduced anxiety, and a greater sense of grounding as their bodies shift out of fight‑or‑flight into a more regulated state.

Talley continues, "The rhythmic, repetitive patterns of drumming naturally encourage entrainment (process of synchronizing internal rhythms), allowing heart rate, breath, and emotional arousal to settle into a calmer state, which supports parasympathetic activation and reduces stress. At the same time, the social synchrony of drumming in a group strengthens feelings of belonging and safety, which are essential for recovery from trauma, addiction, and emotional dysregulation."

At RAC, we continue to expand innovative holistic approaches that support recovery of the mind, body and soul. Stay tuned for more program updates!

As tens of thousands of fans travel to Stanford University to see the K-pop band BTS (방탄소년단) perform this weekend, RAC lauds the band for openly addressing topics that are unusual in mainstream pop music. BTS lyrics are themed around and social pressure, mental health and , , and youth struggles. Band member RM has publicly spoken about how military service led him to a dark place psychologically. Their music does not replace professional mental health care, but many listeners say it helps them feel less alone.

Clinical Director Nadine Talley MSW, LCSW, CTSS elaborates on music therapy at RAC: "Music therapy and the intentional use of sound can serve as a powerful therapeutic modality for individuals with mental‑health and addiction‑related needs Leading experts increasingly recognize the clinical value of sound‑based interventions—including pitch, rhythm, tone, and frequency—as part of evidence‑informed treatment. We intentionally integrate sound and music into our treatment approach to enhance regulation, connection, and overall therapeutic outcomes."

This Mental Health Awareness month, prioritize healing and recovery. Call 856-644-7210 or email info@racnj.com to learn more about music therapy and other treatment modalities at RAC.
