Resident Spotlight: Corie A.
Corie has been part of our community since 2021. Originally from Schuylkill County, she grew up in Pottsville and moved around quite a bit as a child, even spending time in Baltimore, Maryland. After her husband passed away and maintaining the house became too much, her daughter stopped in to tour for her and helped her make the move. When Corie first arrived, she thought the community looked like a hotel and immediately noticed how kind and welcoming both the residents and employees were. She was very active when she first moved in and proudly says she still is today.
Before retiring, Corie worked as a sales manager at the Berkshire Mall, a role she truly loved. She managed the gift store as if it were her own business, something she still feels proud of. Family has always been very important to her. She has two children, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and many of her favorite memories center around the large family picnics and holidays that were always held at her home.
Corie enjoys reading, playing bingo, and going out to dinner with her family, and in the past she loved bowling with friends. Here in the community she keeps busy participating in bingo, word games, trivia, Coffee and Conversations, happy hour, Sparkly Suppers, masquerades, sock hops, and outings. Bingo remains her favorite activity. She also enjoys 80s and 90s soft rock music and treats like chocolate cake with peanut butter icing.
She has traveled to several places, including Hawaii and New Hampshire, and especially remembers the beauty and people she encountered in Hawaii. Among the moments she treasures most are family vacations to the shore and the day she was married. What makes her smile today is spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To Corie, a happy life means family, good food, and good friends, and she says staying positive comes from being thankful for what you have.
What she enjoys most about living here is the staff, the food, and the welcoming environment. When asked what she would tell someone considering a move, Corie says they will always be busy with activities, the food is good, and the community truly feels wonderful.
