We don’t just care about fat loss, or staying fit while pregnant, or eating enough veggies around here at Healthy Catholic Moms. We care VERY much about your mental health!!
While I do think that now we can all agree that copious amounts of time on our phones (especially social media) can raise anxiety levels, foster attention deficit habits, and SO much more… There are other things I’ve noticed while working with hundreds of different women throughout the years. 👇🏻
▫️When we default to our phones, we miss the opportunity for what could be active time.
For example, if you’re waiting for a child in a lesson which you can’t visually observe - you might sit and catch up on emails or flip IG, etc. But what if you chose to get up and walk around the building or the parking lot, maybe listening to an audio book, maybe praying?
▫️ A workout from my any programs average 21 minutes long… We claim a lack of time as a barrier to working out but check your screen time, is this true? Even for times we want a “break,” we will get SO much more out of stepping outside for five minutes than we will from leaning on the kitchen counter and scrolling for five minutes.
So what do we do? 👇🏻
▫️ Set specific times you check your phone (for me- I try to do morning, afternoon, and before things wind down for the evening)
▫️ Have something else you look forward to for a break. I read my kindle during lunch if I’m eating after the kids or during my afternoon coffee break. I bring a book to appointments that I’m at by myself. I go outside for breathers as I can.
▫️Just delete the dang apps. I (actually I say, the Holy Spirit did- as it just disappeared one day!)- deleted my work email off of my phone and suddenly instead of checking it while nursing, I was praying, I was reading, I was not sitting with my shoulders up to my ears always trying to be productive!
I appreciate technology (and obviously use it) but we have to be in control of it so it doesn’t control us. If your health is suffering because you’re glued to a screen constantly (and if you’re glued to a screen constantly, it IS), it ain’t worth it.
Here’s to the resolution we all should make 💕
