Balancing Act Therapies

Balancing Act Therapies Bowen Therapy on Block Island - the perfect therapy in the perfect place to help you feel better! I used to have a government job that I loved. And then?

It was perfect for me for years. It wasn't. For years I worked with people who wanted to take an active part in bettering their business. But then something seemed to shift. People no longer wanted to do the work; they wanted a quick fix. I couldn't work that way so I decided to transition out of that job into something more aligned with myself. I wanted to help people feel better - physically, me

ntally and emotionally. I decided to study Bowen therapy because I liked its philosophy and I was very much excited by what it could do for clients without undue physical stress on them or the practitioner. The name of my business - balancing act therapies - came to me because life really is a balancing act and my vision/mission is to help people feel better in their day to day lives, while maintaining well-being in their work/life balance.

Healing doesn’t have to be complicated. It can start with a single gentle touch.

Every Bowen move is an invitation — to feel, to listen, to return.

In a world that pulls us out of ourselves, your work helps people come home to their bodies.

And that truly matters.

You can’t digest, repair, or restore when your system is stuck on “go.”

Bowen Therapy reminds the body that it’s safe to slow down.

This is a wonderful post about Bowen. And the comments are great, too. It’s a therapy which helps people to heal from pain and injury.

🎉 5 Fun Facts About the Bowen Technique 🎉
(AKA the gentle therapy with powerful results!)

1️⃣ It’s all about fascia! 👍
Bowen moves target the connective tissue (fascia) that wraps around your muscles and organs - helping to release tension, restore balance, and reboot your body.

2️⃣ No cracking, no crunching 🤗
It’s gentle, non-invasive, and you stay fully clothed - it’s what makes Bowen Therapy so unique (and relaxing!).

3️⃣ Less is more ✨
Practitioners often pause between moves to let the body respond. Those quiet moments? That’s when the magic happens.

4️⃣ It was developed by an Aussie legend.🇦🇺
Tom Bowen, the creator of the technique, was a self-taught therapist from Australia - helping thousands of people with his hands-on healing in the 1950s–80s.

5️⃣ It helps more than just sore backs. 🤕
From sports injuries to stress, headaches to hormonal balance - Bowen can support a wide range of conditions by helping the body heal itself.

Bowen Therapy: proof that gentle can be powerful.

So very true.

So very true.

"Your issues are in your tissues."

It’s a phrase you may have heard — and it holds a lot of truth.

Our bodies remember.

Stress, emotion, and even trauma can become stored in our muscles, fascia, and nervous system responses.

That’s why working with the body — gently and respectfully — can be such a powerful way to support emotional wellbeing.

Bowen Therapy isn’t just for physical complaints.

Many people find that during times of grief, anxiety, overwhelm or transition, Bowen offers a calm, grounded space to reconnect.

Because healing isn’t just about muscles.

It’s about the whole person. 💚

This analogy is so appropriate. If you’ve been wondering about an appointment to try it, now is the time.

This analogy is so appropriate. If you’ve been wondering about an appointment to try it, now is the time.

In essence the Bowenwork practitioner is a facilitator, not a manipulator.

By applying the moves, the practitioner gives the body specific neurological signals to relax, and then steps back for a few minutes to allow the body to 'relax itself.'

Compared to many other bodywork techniques, Bowenwork initiates an internal response that stimulates restoration of the body's equilibrium, rather than an external approach of manipulating areas of tight muscle tension until it is released.

Not only does Bowen have a specific move for the Vagus nerve but many of the moves generally affect the vagus nerve helping to calm the nervous system which helps with lifting our mood.

Hope for Depression — the Power of the Vagus Nerve and Bowen Therapy

New research has found that stimulating the vagus nerve — a key communication pathway between the brain and major organs — can significantly improve the quality of life in people with treatment-resistant depression.

In a clinical trial of 493 participants with major depression, those who received vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) showed measurable improvements in mood, daily functioning, and overall wellbeing — even after years of unsuccessful treatment.

👉 And here's where Bowen Therapy comes in.

Bowen Therapy has a specific vagus nerve procedure, and its aim, along with all Bowen moves, is to shift the body from the flight or fight response (sympathetic nervous system) to the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest mode) where healing can occur.

While the trial involved an implanted device, Bowen Therapy uses the body’s own healing intelligence — with no drugs, no force, and no devices — just targeted, mindful touch.

The vagus nerve connects — and so does Bowen.

This is so true. Dr Maté is a fan of Bowen because it works to shift the body from fight/flight to rest/digrst. When we are in a calm state our body is able to heal and repair. Time for some Bowen? Yes, please! Appts available on Block Island this week.

Our body speaks — even when we don’t.

When we're unable to say no to the demands of life, our bodies can do it for us and our internalised stress gets externalised.

Listen to your body’s whispers before they turn into screams.
