With over 20 years of experience, she brings a deep understanding of movement and a genuine passion for helping others feel their best. Outside of the studio, she loves to travel and explore new places!

Cynthia Turner is a Detroit-based Pilates instructor rooted in community and committed to making mindful movement feel authentic, accessible, and deeply empowering. She blends the precision of STOTT Pilates with her engineering-minded approach to body awareness, offering classes that are both technically grounded and intuitively guided. Known for her warm energy and uplifting presence, Cynthia creates space for students to tune in, slow down, and build strength from the inside out—one intentional breath at a time.

PRE/POSTNATAL EXERCISES 🍼

For postnatal strengthening, these gentle exercises with leg extensions over the ball help to strengthen the abdominals with an exhale. Hands on the stomach gently push the abdominals inward to help encourage the abdominals to come back together if separation or diastasis has occurred.

Sidelying core strengthening is well tolerated through pregnancy. If additional support is needed a small pillow could be places around the abdomen as well. Press down into the ball during exhalation to draw the abs in and engage the lats. Sidelying clams and sidekick with a small range of motion help to strengthen the hip and core.

Pilates during/after pregnancy has SO many benefits! ✨

Short Spine on the Reformer looks simple… until you focus on the details. 👀

The magic of this exercise is all about control, articulation, and connection — not speed.

DO:
✔️ Articulate through the spine one vertebra at a time
✔️ Keep consistent tension in the straps
✔️ Maintain connection through the core and hamstrings
✔️ Move the carriage slowly and with control

DON’T:
❌ Rush the roll down
❌ Collapse or drop through the spine
❌ Let the straps or carriage control the movement
❌ Skip the articulation on the return

When done well, Short Spine becomes less about the range and more about the quality of the movement.

Control > momentum. Every time. ✨

MEET OUR NEWEST APPRENTICE: Maryam ☕️

“For years, movement has been a big part of my life. I’ve explored everything (weightlifting, boxing, running, CrossFit, yoga, cycling), but something always felt missing from my training that would benefit my mobility and mind-body connection. Working and studying at a desk full-time, I started dealing with chronic back pain and realized I needed a different kind of movement - one that supported my body for the long run, not just challenged it.

Then I found Pilates 2 years ago, and that’s when it finally clicked.
Pilates helped me move with more awareness, ease my back pain, and reconnect with my body in a way I hadn’t experienced before. The changes weren’t just physical; my mindset, energy, and overall well-being started to change too. I’m so excited to begin this apprenticeship and to share my love and appreciation for Pilates with you all!”

We’re proud to highlight Olivia Harris, owner of Recharged Pilates, who completed her Pilates training with Equilibrium and recently hosted a full STOTT PILATES® intensive matwork course at her beautiful new studio! 💚

Olivia’s path—from athlete, to instructor, to studio owner—reflects a strong commitment to thoughtful movement and quality education. It was a pleasure partnering with her and teaching in a space she has intentionally built for her community.
