New York State issued a warning this year after inspections of med spas found violations including unlicensed or unqualified staff, dirty needles, expired or counterfeit Botox,and unsanitary conditions.

Dr.Pennoyer received her B.A. from Harvard University, earned her medical degree from the UConn School of Medicine, did her internship in internal medicine at UConn, and completed her dermatology residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and an Associate Clinical Professor at the UConn School of Medicine, as well as a member of the Connecticut Dermatologic Society, the Hartford County Medical Association, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS).

We are pleased to introduce Julie Brookman, who has joined Pennoyer Dermatology as a Licensed Medical Esthetician.
Julie Brookman is a licensed medical esthetician with 18 years of experience dedicated to helping clients feel confident and comfortable in their skin. She began her professional training at The New England School of Aesthetics, where she built a strong foundation in skin health, corrective treatments, and personalized care.
Throughout her career, Julie has worked in both luxury spa environments and medical settings, giving her a well-rounded approach to skincare. For 14 years, she worked alongside a plastic surgeon, providing both stand-alone aesthetic treatments and pre- and post-procedural care designed to complement surgical results. This experience allowed her to develop a deep understanding of skin healing, treatment planning, and long-term skin health.
Julie is highly experienced with medical-grade skincare products and customized patient care programs. She believes esthetics is about more than appearance—it’s about supporting the skin’s function, restoring balance, and educating clients so they feel empowered in their skincare choices.
