Dear Patients,

As per the latest instruction from Governor Murphy, we are still open to serve you. However, due to the Covid-19 virus we have to make some changes in order to do so. The biggest change that we will be making is to close our waiting room and move to appointment only scheduling. This means we will be asking everyone to call before an appointment before coming in. When you do arrive please give us a call and we will bring you directly into an adjusting room so we can maintain proper social distancing.

In addition, each adjusting and treatment room will be disinfected after each patient. We realize the pervasive smell of cleaning products will be an irritation to some but your safety is our primary concern. All doctors will be wearing N95 masks and gloves when appropriate.

If for any reason you feel like you have a cold or flu like symptoms like: fever, stuffy nose, chest congestion, fatigue, dry or wet cough, PLEASE DO NOT COME IN. You could put others at risk by doing so.

Fortunately, the governor has allowed us to continue to serve. So many of our patients have already reached out to see if we will be there and it would have been very difficult to say no. We are here for you. If you are a senior, pediatric patient, or are considered a high risk patient due to a certain medical condition we can still see you but we will either try to schedule you at a lower volume time or we can see you on our traditional “off” days so that we limit your exposure to others. We realize this isn’t ideal but we will do our best to make it as convenient as possible.

We would like to wish everyone continued health and safety during this crazy time. Please feel free to call us with any questions.

Hello Everyone,

Since everyone is coming in with coughs and runny noses, I guess it's time to start talking about allergies. After the interesting winter we just had you just know this allergy season is going to hurt. So with this post we will briefly talk about what you can do to help make it better for you without running to the medicine cabinet every 10 minutes.

First step is to limit your allergy symptoms is to minimize the exposure to whatever it is your allergic too. I know the weather is starting to get warmer but driving around with the window open is not going to help you. Your just asking the pollen to swirl around your car causing uncontrolled histamine release in your body.

Same for sleeping at night with the window open. I know it's cool out but the pollen is at its worst at night and the constant exposure to outside air will make it hard to get a good night sleep. Take a shower before you go to bed and keep the clothes you have been outside in out of the bedroom. At the very least, you want to keep your bedroom allergen free. If you don't sleep, that's when you will get sick. Secondary infections like sinus infections, colds, and bronchitis can take advantage of an allergy sufferer if their immune system becomes compromised due to lack of sleep so it's important the bedroom stays as allergen free as possible.

As far as over the counter medication to help your allergy symptoms, here are a few suggestions that have limited side effects. The first is your standard antihistamines like Benadryl, Claritin, Allegra, and Zyrtec. All of these will help reduce histamine levels produced by allergens and will help keep your symptoms under control. Other then making you a bit sleepy most don't have any side effects. WARNING: Men should avoid using Benadryl and nasal decongestants like Afrin. They can effect the
prostate in older men. Stay away from psuedoephedrin. They have a long list of side effects that could really effect your health.

Some over the counter remedy that has zero side effects is Simply Saline and Breath Right strips. Arm and hammer makes Simply Saline and it's basically salt water in compressed air ( see picture on the bottom of the post). The salty mist will irrigate the nasal passages and the salt will dry you out and help you sleep at night. The trick to using it is that you need to use it nightly. It does have a cumulative effect so get a bottle and try it nightly for a week. I personally find its easier to use then the Neti-pot. Not only is it less messy but you won't subluxation your neck trying to use it. Breath Right strips uses a bandaid like apparatus with a rigid insert to help open up your nasal-passages allowing more air to be drawn in. Both work great, especially together, and aside from the Breath Right strips making you look a bit goofy, will help you sleep at night.

Finally lets talk about what chiropractic can do for our allergy suffers. One of the worst parts of allergy symptoms is the stuffy nose and congested sinuses. This happens due to uncontrolled histamine release in your body. It can get so bad that it can tighten the muscles under the skull and around the upper neck which is we're the sinuses drain in the first place. If it gets to tight it will keep you sinus from draining causing more pain. Upper cervical and skull adjustment help release this area so the sinuses can drain. In particular the anterior skull adjustment really works the best to stretch this area and it usually lasts a week to 2 weeks so most patients only need 1 or 2 adjustments to get them through the season.

If you or a loved one is suffering from allergies share this article with them. Thanks again for your support and feel free to post any questions for us.

Yours in Health,

Dr. Mike

Hello again,

One of the most common questions I get asked about chiropractic is, "Is chiropractic safe for children?" Of course it is! Both of my girls were adjusted before they were even a minute old.

This question recently came more into focus for me due to an injury my daughter sustained while performing gymnastics. She fell off the parallel bar and landed on the back of her head and neck. Soon after the fall, she was complaining of sharp neck pain, dizziness, and headaches. After checking her and ruling out a possible concussion, I decided to take an x-ray of her neck. Needless to say, I was surprised at the results.

Below, you can see a normal curve in the first picture. The second is what we found when we took a look at Catherine.

Needless to say, we have some work to do. Now normally, we do not take x-rays of little guys that often. Usually only after a traumatic event, severe postural distortions that could indicate scoliosis, or if symptoms persists after normal pediatric adjusting does not show results.

I am happy I did with Catherine.

We are currently adjusting Catherine a couple times a week and she is doing a cervical roll nightly to get her curve back. We will check in again soon and share a post film to see how we did, but the next time you're in the office, please ask us any questions about chiropractic for children. I know Catherine's injury isn't a fluke. These types of incidents happen all the time to our kids and I personally don't want any child to have to live with the constant neck pain, headaches, or jeopardize the development of her spine as they grow.

Thanks for your time, everyone, and we will talk again soon.

Happy New Year Everyone.

All of us here at the Dellanno Family Chiropractic Center would like to wish a happy and healthy New Year to our family of patients. Like all of you we are looking forward to another exciting year helping you get back into health. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself).

This year we are going to have a few new changes in our practice. The biggest one is a new clinic software that will not only help us stay compliant with insurance companies but also make it easier for you to make and keep appointments. This software includes automated texting so reminders and schedule changes can be easier for you. If you like me, our voicemail sometimes doesn't get checked as often as out texts so it's our hope this should make it easier for you to communicate with our office. There will also be iPad sign in and paperless intakes forms so life should be easier for all of us.

Another big change, or should I call is a New Years resolution, is to be more active on Facebook. We started to casually post some thoughts and articles on our new page and we really surprised how many likes and views we were getting. So this year we promise to be more active on Facebook. Don't worry. We don't plan to overwhelm you with information or advertising but we will be posting some good information and tips to help keep everyone healthy. If you like what you see then please share the health with others in your life. If there is a particular question or topic you would like us to cover in an open forum please let us know. I am sure at some point I'll need help coming up with new topics so let's get a community approach going.

Thanks again for supporting us here on Facebook and we will talk again soon.

Hello Everyone!! This month we decided to talk about a very common problem that we see that most of our patients are surprised that we can help them with.
Headaches.
According to recent studies 45% of the population suffers from chronic headaches and has caused on average over 150 million lost work days in the US alone. So when we tell our patients we may be able to help there is almost always a surprised reaction. So how can chiropractic help someone with headaches? It all comes down to the nerves.
By far the most common headaches are the tension headaches. They characteristically produce pain wrapping around the side of the head terminating in and around the eye. The most common cause of these types of headaches is vertebral subluxations, or misalignments, of the upper neck. Not unlike sciatica, when a vertebra becomes displaced, it causes inflammation in the joints which in turn cause nerve compression and will send pain from the back down the back of the leg. With a headache, the same thing occurs but instead of going down the leg like in sciatica, in goes into the head.
Chiropractic is perfect for this. Our job as chiropractors is to analyze and locate vertebrae that have become displaced. We then put these bones back into place with specific light force adjustments and use traction and exercises to train the joint to stay there permanently. By doing this we remove the cause of the headache, the vertebral subluxation.
Even headaches like sinus headaches and migraines have neurological components that can be significantly reduced by chiropractic treatment, so if your receiving treatment from us let us know about those headaches your having.
We can help.
