Hunching over your phone or your desk for hours, day in and day out, chisels away at your posture and spine health. Medically referred to as kyphosis, a dowager’s hump causes pain through the neck and shoulders, headaches, and fatigue.

Physician Spotlight | Dr. Steven Schutzer is one of our highly skilled board-certified orthopedic surgeons. He completed his general surgical training at the University of Rochester, his orthopedic residency at the University of Connecticut, and then his fellowship training in adult hip and reconstructive surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Going in for an appointment with your AONE doctor? Make the most out of it by being a STAR patient:

S – Say where it hurts (Tell us the exact location)
T – Tell us when and how it started (e.g., five months ago, after a fall)
A – Assess the intensity (Use the 1–10 scale to describe how bad it is)
R – Reveal what makes it better or worse and what it feels like (i.e., Does it throb, burn, or ache?)

Also, let us know if there are any accompanying symptoms, such as swelling, stiffness, weakness, numbness, or if the pain is constant or sporadic. Remember, the more we know, the better we can help.
