ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allan be pleased withi him) said:
“O Aslam, let not your love be excessive attachment, nor your hatred be destructive.
When you love, do not cling blindly as a child; and when you hate, do not wish harm or ruin upon others.” (al-Arab al-Mufrad)

This timeless advice reminds us to practice moderation in our emotions. Love sincerely, but don’t let it blind you. Dislike or disagree, but never with the wish to destroy. Balance in our feelings brings peace to ourselves and those around us.

Eating in a certain order can help digestion, energy, and blood sugar control. Here’s a general guideline:

1. Water first
• Drink a glass 15–30 minutes before eating to hydrate and prepare digestion (but avoid large amounts during the meal).

2. Vegetables / Salad (fiber first)
• Starting with fiber slows down glucose absorption and prepares the gut.
3. Protein & Healthy Fats

• Chicken, fish, lentils, eggs, nuts.
• This helps keep you full and stabilizes blood sugar.
4. Carbohydrates / Starches

• Rice, bread, potatoes, etc. Best eaten after protein so you don’t spike blood sugar too quickly.
5. Sweet Foods Last

• If you’re having fruit or dessert, keep it at the end so it doesn’t ferment in the stomach with heavier foods and cause bloating.

✅ Practical Example
Water → cucumber salad → grilled chicken → brown rice → dates or fruit.

The Qur’an: A Divine Cure

The Prophet ﷺ beautifully stated:

“Take the two cures: the Qur’an and honey.”
(Reported by Ibn Mājah)

In this concise yet profound hadith, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ offers us a prescription that transcends time and place: the healing power of revelation and nature.

The Qur’an: A Spiritual and Emotional Remedy

Allah ﷻ describes the Qur’an not just as guidance, but also as a source of healing:

“وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ”
“And We send down from the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers.”
(Surah al-Isrā’ 17:82)

This Shifa is comprehensive—it addresses:
• Diseases of the heart, like doubt, anxiety, jealousy, pride, and spiritual emptiness.
• Psychological and emotional pain, such as grief, sadness, fear, and worry.
• In some cases, even physical ailments, especially when the Qur’an is recited with belief, sincerity, and trust in Allah’s power.

Many believers have experienced deep inner peace, calm, and even physical improvement through practices such as listening to the Qur’an & reciting it with reflection.

Honey: A Natural Medicine

The second cure mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ is honey—a natural substance praised in both the Qur’an and Sunnah:

“يَخْرُجُ مِن بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌ مُّخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَانُهُ فِيهِ شِفَاءٌ لِّلنَّاسِ”
“From within their bellies (bees) comes a drink of varying colors, in which there is healing for people.”
(Surah al-Naḥl 16:69)

Honey contains antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. It was used by the Prophet ﷺ for various ailments and remains a powerful natural remedy today.

A Dual Cure for the Body and Soul

What makes the Prophet’s ﷺ prescription unique is its holistic nature. One cure—the Qur’an—heals the soul, strengthens the heart, and connects you to your Creator. The other—honey—nourishes the body, strengthens the immune system, and supports physical well-being.

In an age of rising stress, illness, and disconnection, this prophetic advice reminds us that healing is not only in medication, but in returning to the Book of Allah.

May Allah grant us the tawfīq to benefit from the shifā’ that is right before our eyes.
