What has been your experience with picking up a placenta from UChicago Medicine?

Recently, my client was given a difficult time when requesting to take her placenta home after delivery. Initially, she was told she could not take it because she had preeclampsia. When she questioned that reasoning, she was then told it could not be released due to the presence of meconium.

After advocating and asking additional questions, we were eventually able to receive the placenta—but the process was unnecessarily stressful for this new mom.

I’m curious if other doulas or birth professionals have had similar experiences at UChicago Medicine when supporting clients who plan to keep their placenta.

What has been your experience with picking up a placenta at UofChicago. They gave my client such a problem.
They told her she couldn't take her placenta because she had pre-eclampsia. When she insisted, they told her she couldn't take her placenta because their was mecomium. We were finally able to get the placenta, but not without issue.
This Momma was stressed and it was ot necessary. Has anyone has similar experiences with them?

A spouses support is so important. This is why I do not rush to the laboring mom right away. That suppprt and intimacy can do a lot. Dad's this is an example of great support. Over the years I have witnessed many Dad provide this level of support. For those who do not know how I support them as they learn.
