KNEE BIOMECHANICS
The screw home mechanism is a biomechanical phenomenon that occurs during the last few degrees of knee extension and flexion. It involves a combination of internal tibial rotation and external femoral rotation, which contributes to the stability of the knee joint. As the knee extends, the femur rotates externally while the tibia remains relatively fixed due to the shape of the articular surfaces. This action locks the knee into a stable position, providing support during weight-bearing activities. Conversely, during knee flexion, the screw home mechanism is released, allowing for smooth movement of the joint.

Knee valgum refers to the inward angulation of the knee joint, characterized by the knees moving towards each other and the feet moving away from each other. This misalignment can lead to various issues such as knee pain, instability, altered gait, and increased risk of injury. Excessive knee valgus places abnormal stress on the knee joint and surrounding structures, potentially leading to conditions like patellofemoral pain syndrome, ACL injuries, MCL injuries, meniscal tears, and cartilage damage.
Appropriate knee biomechanics involve maintaining proper alignment and stability of the knee joint during movement. This includes ensuring that the knee tracks in line with the toes and hip, avoiding excessive inward or outward deviations (valgus or varus), and optimizing muscle strength and control around the knee and hip joints. Proper biomechanics also involve adequate flexibility, neuromuscular control, and dynamic stability to support functional activities and reduce the risk of injury.

By understanding the screw home mechanism, knee valgum, and appropriate knee biomechanics, individuals can implement strategies to improve movement patterns, strengthen supportive muscles, and reduce the risk of knee-related issues. Incorporating this knowledge into exercise routines can promote optimal knee health and function, ultimately enhancing overall quality of life and physical performance.

Predict don't react - Anticipate don't Improvise.. Neck control.

The relationship between the alignment of the Atlas (C1) and Axis (C2) vertebrae and its impact on the vestibular-ocular reflex (VOR) and center of gravity involves complex neurological and biomechanical mechanisms.

1. Vertebral Alignment and VOR:
- The Atlas (C1) vertebra plays a crucial role in the coordination of head and eye movements, as it houses the brainstem structures involved in the VOR.

- The VOR is responsible for stabilizing vision during head movements by generating eye movements that are equal and opposite to head movements.

- Misalignment or dysfunction of the Atlas vertebra can disrupt the VOR, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, and impaired visual stability during head movements.

2. Center of Gravity:
- The alignment of the Atlas and Axis vertebrae influences the biomechanics of the cervical spine and, consequently, the overall posture and center of gravity of the body.

- Any deviation from the optimal alignment of these vertebrae can affect the distribution of weight and the alignment of the body segments, potentially altering the center of gravity.

3. Involvement of the Pontomedullary Reticular Formation (PMRF):
- The Pontomedullary Reticular Formation is a complex network of neurons located in the brainstem, spanning from the pons to the medulla.

- It plays a crucial role in integrating sensory inputs, including vestibular information, and coordinating motor responses involved in maintaining posture, balance, and coordination.

- Dysfunction in the PMRF due to aberrant signals from the cervical spine, including those related to misalignment of the Atlas and Axis vertebrae, can lead to disturbances in postural control and balance.
Overall, the alignment of the Atlas and Axis vertebrae affects both the vestibular-ocular reflex and the center of gravity through their impact on the biomechanics of the cervical spine and the integration of sensory and motor signals in brainstem structures like the Pontomedullary Reticular Formation. Misalignment or dysfunction in these vertebrae can disrupt these processes, leading to various neurological symptoms and postural disturbances.

During this call, our care coordinator will:

- Answer any questions you have.

- Discuss your goals and challenges.

- Schedule your online movement/running analysis.

Step 2: Welcome message with Pre-Analysis Steps

After the discovery call, you'll receive a welcome message from your care coordinator outlining the steps to complete before your assessment. These steps are crucial to ensure a personalized and effective session. You'll need to:

- Complete a Health History Survey:
Fill out the health history form at www.virtual.fluidhealthandfitness.com.

- Sign a Personal Liability Waiver:
Complete the liability waiver provided in the email.

- Complete an At-Home Virtual Movement Screen:

Complete the virtual movement screen using your phone or tablet. The video above will serve as a tutorial to guide you through this process.

Step 3: Assessment with Movement Specialist

During the analysis session:
- A movement specialist will review your health history and movement screen observations.

- They'll provide suggestions and programming options based on your individual needs and goals.

- The entire review will take approximately 60 minutes.

Step 4: Preparation for Your Assessment

- Find a well-lit area with enough space to stand and lie down comfortably in front of the camera.

- Ensure a strong internet connection to avoid interruptions.

- Minimize distractions to focus fully on the assessment.

Completing these steps before your assessment will provide our movement specialist with essential background information and help establish functional baselines for personalized programming. Additionally, the 2D capture will provide valuable data on range of motion, strength imbalances, and coordination deficits.
