The Flick Fund Story:
In 2011, Kevin Flick was diagnosed with FSGS (a rare chronic kidney disease) while working toward his graduate degree in the School of Informatics at Indiana University. A father of two children and being unable to work while on dialysis, Kevin and his wife relied on the financial, spiritual and emotional support to push through. Needing to raise money for a kidney transplant, Kevin's church community, and friends and family, raised close to $100,000 in just five weeks, far exceeding their fundraising goals. Kevin received his kidney transplant (from his brother) in November, 2014. Two months later, he was diagnosed with a Pituitary Tumor, pressing against his brain. Thanks to the generosity of the community, the costs for removing the tumor were covered from the fundraiser, which was removed six months later. Kevin, his wife Melinda, and two children set up this fund with the Community Foundation of Monroe County, in hopes to help others in similar situations. Thanks to the Foundation and the generosity of others, they are able to give back. To donate toward The Flick Medical Emergency Fund, visit: https://www.cfbmc.org/donate-flick-fund/

Eighteen months ago, my wife and I established The Flick Medical Emergency Fund with the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County. Now, for the first time, our fund is available to help those in need!

The Flick Medical Emergency Fund is set up to grant money to people who are hit with the costs of an unexpected medical emergency, through local communities of faith. Our hope is that not only will financial needs be met, but that physical, emotional, and spiritual needs can also be met through a caring community.

Many in our community will be in great need due to COVID-19. Please consider helping us grow The Flick Medical Emergency Fund so we can help more people!

If you have any questions about the fund contact Meagan Niese at the Community Foundation at meaganniese@cfbmc.org.

Thank you all so much.

Sincerely,
Kevin Flick

It is hard to believe that it has been three years since I received my brother's kidney. Everything leading up to the transplant was both trying in every sense and life changing. We're beyond grateful for all that you have done for our family. We have been so blessed.

One of the challenges we faced was the need to raise a large amount of money so that we could afford the kidney transplant. We set out to raise $65,000, and to our amazement we raised close to $100,000 in five weeks.

From the excess of your generosity, Mindy and I have recently created The Flick Medical Emergency Fund with Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County. This endowment will provide financial support to families and individuals who are going through a medical crisis. When an individual or family is facing a medical crisis, approved funds (at the discretion of Community Foundation) will be distributed through the individual's community of faith to the individual. Our hope is that not only the financial needs of the individual will be addressed, but also their emotional and spiritual needs through the support of their community of faith.

Donate to The Flick Fund by visiting the Community Foundation's website (cfbmc.org/donate-now/) and select "Flick Medical Emergency Fund," from the list of funds. Or, send a check to Community Foundation, and write "The Flick Medical Emergency Fund" on the memo line.
