Love supporting this cause!

We are beyond grateful for Melissa Stone Counseling and Consulting, LLC and her partnership over the last 5 years. Once again she is sponsoring a basket for our hometown heroes event.

She has a passion for first responders, she states “having worked in the public safety (law enforcement, specifically) and crisis world for the last 5+ years (and currently!) as a mental health professional, my heart has grown for those who work in public safety and their families.”

We are thankful that our local first responders have her practice as a resource and we at Back the Line want to say THANK YOU for your support!

💥 Hello! It’s been a while, as things have been quite busy for MSCC! Summer has been a time to rest and recharge, which is never a bad thing.

All that being said, I have some exciting news! I am honored to be contracting with The Workplace Trauma Center as a crisis responder and organizational trainer. WTC provides trained responders to organizations after critical incidents/during times of high stress and also provides trainings for organizations on a myriad of employee wellness topics all around the globe.

I saw a presentation about them and met them at a conference in April, and I just knew I needed to be a part of it. I’m also their first contractor in Indiana, so I’m excited to be able to help them expand!

It’s hard for me to imagine a work life that would never involve critical incident response, so this is a great step for MSCC! 💥 🥳

Two years ago, I jumped into private practice in addition to my job at BPD! Melissa Stone Counseling and Consulting, LLC has been quite the journey, but I’ve been enjoying some long-term clients to balance out the every day crisis world I’m usually involved with! I’ve also had some opportunities to provide consulting and education, which has also been very rewarding. Looking forward to seeing what’s next for MSCC!

We are lucky to have four dispatch groups (Central, IUPD, ISP, and DNR) operating within Monroe County. While we were happy to provide food during this honorary week, just know we are grateful for your hard work all year around!

It’s been an incredible year for Melissa Stone Counseling and Consulting, LLC! Thanks to everyone who has been a part of it all! ♥️

It was my first full year in part-time private practice… 🗓️

I held 178 sessions, with almost 90% being clients utilizing insurance…. 💪🏻

I have kept 3 plants alive with no windows… 🌱 😂

And, the biggest move, I officially moved into my very own office! 🏠

I’m thankful for 2024, and I’m looking forward to 2025!! 🌟

Melissa Stone Counseling and Consulting is growing! For the last year, I’ve been sharing space with another clinician, for which I’ll forever be thankful. It’s clear, though, that it’s time to spread my wings. Beginning by August, I’ll have my very own space! Here’s a sneak peek!

As a reminder, I take Anthem BCBS, United, Cigna, TRICARE, and am a VA Community Care Provider.

My practice specializes in 20s/30s life transitions, military/first responders, victims of crime, and grief/loss.

Those who know me from the police social work world, I am not leaving (yet), so no worries there! 😉

VA Health Care Eligibility: A Guide for Monroe County Veterans.

According to the Veterans Administration, In Monroe County, Indiana, there are approximately 6,500 veterans, yet only about 2,118 of them are currently receiving VA health care. This is a tremendous benefit that many more veterans could be utilizing. If you haven't signed up for VA health care, now is the time to do so! Here's a guide to help you determine if you or someone you know qualifies for VA health care.

Veteran Status
Eligibility for VA health care starts with the basic requirement of having served in the active military, naval, or air service. Additionally, the individual must have been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. This foundational criterion opens the door to a wide range of benefits.

Service-Connected Disabilities
Veterans with service-connected disabilities, which are conditions determined by the VA to be related to their military service, are typically eligible for VA health care. These disabilities include any injury or illness that occurred or was aggravated during active service.

Pension or Compensation
If you receive VA pension or disability compensation, you are eligible for health care benefits. These financial supports are provided to veterans with disabilities related to their service or those who meet specific income and net worth limits.

Former Prisoner of War (POW)
Former POWs are eligible for VA health care. This special designation is given to veterans who endured significant hardships during captivity.

Purple Heart Recipients
If you've been awarded the Purple Heart, a military decoration given for being wounded or killed while serving, you qualify for VA health care.

Medal of Honor Recipients
Receiving the Medal of Honor, the highest personal military decoration, also makes you eligible for comprehensive VA health care.

Vietnam War Service
Veterans who served in Vietnam between January 9, 1962, and May 7, 1975, are eligible. This period includes significant military operations and engagements in the region.

Gulf War Service
If you served in the Southwest Asia theater of operations from August 2, 1990, through November 11, 1998, including Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, you are eligible.

Post-9/11 Veterans
Veterans who served on active duty in a theater of combat operations after November 11, 1998, may be eligible for enhanced benefits for five years following their discharge. This includes veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Minimum Duty Requirements
Generally, veterans must have served 24 continuous months or the full period for which they were called to active duty. Exceptions are made for those discharged due to a disability incurred or aggravated in the line of duty, hardship, or early out.

Income-Based Eligibility
Veterans with low income may qualify for VA health care based on their income level. The VA uses financial assessments to determine eligibility for certain health care benefits.

National Guard and Reserves
Members of the National Guard and Reserves who were called to active duty by a federal order and completed the full period for which they were called are eligible.

Agent Orange Exposure
Veterans exposed to Agent Orange during service in Vietnam, Thailand, or other specified areas are eligible. This toxic herbicide has been linked to several serious health conditions.

Radiation Exposure
Veterans who participated in radiation-risk activities during service, such as nuclear testing, may be eligible due to the long-term health issues associated with radiation exposure.

Eligibility for Enhanced Benefits
Certain conditions and circumstances, such as financial hardship, homelessness, or participation in VA's Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers Program, can also lead to eligibility for enhanced benefits. These programs provide additional support to veterans facing significant challenges.

How to Sign Up for VA Health Care
If you believe you are eligible for VA health care, signing up is straightforward. You can apply by phone or schedule an appointment with me for personalized assistance.

By Phone:
The easiest way to enroll in VA Health care is to call the VA health care enrollment number at 1-877-222-VETS (8387). The call center is available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET. You will need to budget about half an hour for the call, but at the end of the call you will know you have been enrolled in VA Health care!

In Person:
To schedule an appointment with me, your Veterans Service Officer, please contact my office at 812-349-2537. I will be more than happy to assist you in navigating the application process and ensuring you receive the benefits you have earned through your service.

VA health care is a tremendous benefit available to many more veterans than currently take advantage of it. If you haven't signed up yet, now is the time. Let's work together to ensure that you receive the care and support you deserve.

If you are interested in volunteering to drive for the DAV Van, need assistance filing a VA disability claim, or have questions about federal, state, or local veterans benefits, please contact my office. Steven Miller, Monroe County Veteran Service Officer. 812-349-2537 smiller@co.monroe.in.us
