During National Diabetes Awareness Month, it's important to know the signs of diabetic retinopathy, a serious complication from diabetes that can lead to blindness.

Blurred vision, seeing spots or floaters, having a dark or empty spot in the center of your vision and difficulty seeing well at night are all symptoms of diabetic retinopathy.

A comprehensive eye exam with your optometrist can give you all sorts of insights into your vision health, including information regarding diabetes and its effects on your eyes!

November is Diabetes Awareness Month–represented by the blue circle–and that means it's time for us to talk about diabetic eye disease.

According to the American Optometric Association, diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adults. Optometrists can detect diabetes through a simple dilated eye exam, and it's recommended that those with diabetes, or those at high risk for diabetes, get these exams regularly.
