"Treatment Considerations for Gambling Disorder and ADHD
Several research studies indicate a relationship between gambling disorder & ADHD, suggesting that individuals with ADHD may have an increased risk of developing gambling-related issues. Additionally, these two disorders exhibit commonalities, such as challenges with impulse control, risk-taking behaviors, a pursuit of dopamine or novelty, and emotional volatility. In some instances, gambling may serve as a coping mechanism for managing ADHD symptoms. This presentation, by a therapist diagnosed with late-adult ADHD herself, will review existing research on the connection between gambling disorder & ADHD. It will discuss treatment considerations when working with both diagnoses and unique interventions & strategies.
