Every morning I wake up to the powerful Message of Bishop TD Jakes and it just keep pondering in my head...

"STOP HIRING PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU LIKE THEM"...

This message is so powerful for me. π―
This truth is what all Small black owned business need to receive and practice within their on-boarding hire process.
The Reality for me and I'm sure so many other small black owned companies-is that this has been a barrier for many black owners as well as Living Hope Second Chance LLC,.
We continue to has fall into the statistics of this black business barrier because we continue to hire those that WE LIKE...
As Being a black business owner and having an heart full of empathy has been and can be an EPIC business FAILURE for LHSC.
As an owner, most carry a vision excited and wanting to create and offer financial opportunities and have an opportunity to contract or employ family, friends or associates to help provide the services or goods that need to be delivered to our community or client.
This shouldn't be a bad thing at all.
Starting LHSC, I was so honored NOT to JUST service those that need us BUT to be in position to offer a reimbursement to those that serviced those that needed us.
I've learned as a BLACK OWNED BUSINESS OWNER that only the people that I have hired ( I'm sure this is a relatable experience) not alllll, but mainly people I've had personal relationships with like family and close friends have been a MAJOR PROBLEM IN LHSC BUSINESS.
I hire these individuals because
1) LHSC is a growing business
2) LHSC need contractors
3) LHSC has the capability to create income for you, (although DHS should be paying us more this is discussed prior to hire)(probably home doing nothing..alerttttt)
4)LHSC anticipate that these individuals will be more invested in the business like other cultures do together.
This has been an EPIC FAILURE..Constantly involving these individuals in LHSC program.
Family , Friends and Associates will kill you business!!!
Here are just a few reasons that LHSC will look so much different in 2024.
TD Jakes said it best.. "Stop hiring people because you like them"
In Small black owned businesses these individuals that you LIKE want to:
1)Create the NARRATIVES of YOUR BUSINESS.
2)Complain about things they wouldn't dare Complain about to corporations or owners (that they DONT know) because they are JUST AN EMPLOYEE to them
3) Be the CHIEF in the black owners business. (Everyone cannot be the chief, we need Indians to grow)
4) want bring their children on work assignments
5) Arrive late. Leave early or just don't show up to assignments and still TRY to put in hours that haven't been done ( I'm not having it)
6) Think they can handle their PERSONAL BUSINESS while on LHSC clock
7) Feel a sense of entitlement in your business
8) Feel you should practice how you should tell them that they are out of line in your company business model.
9) Don't feel the need to RESPECT THE OWNER because of the personal relationship (I'm not having it)
10) Don't have the capability to have an uncomfortable conversation with the owner but have side conversations with others about you but steady smile in your face. (Back stabbers)
11) Try to join your business to steal your formula to success
Moral of this message is STOP HIRING PEOPLE YOU LIKE.
I've learned that they show up temporarily and waste your time always. It's a pit stop for funds.
Moving forward I want people that I don't know on my team. Im getting back to the root of my hiring process. It saddens me and I've realized that I ain't and can't save every one.
