⛪ Today we celebrated St. Joseph - the quiet, steady, behind‑the‑scenes protector who played a huge role in the life of Jesus and Mary. And also the patron saint of our hospital.

He's honored as the patron of the Universal Church, workers, and even Sicily. His life is a reminder that humility, kindness, and doing the right thing (even when no one’s watching) can change the world.

Sicilian families tell a story that St. Joseph ended a terrible famine. To say thank you, they started making big, meatless feasts called St. Joseph’s Tables — packed with bread, pastries, and tons of food to share with neighbors and especially those in need.

It’s all about gratitude, generosity, and community. This is what it looks like to live our Mission to serve with the greatest care and love.

🙏 St. Joseph, pray for us.

OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical President Eunmee Shim joined other local leaders and Governor J.B. Pritzker today, discussing the affordable housing crisis in Bloomington-Normal and McLean County. The conversation emphasized the need for zoning reform and to remove barriers to housing development, particularly middle-income housing. Shim emphasized the need for affordable workforce housing.

“We are grateful to the governor for prioritizing affordable housing and recognizing it as a key part of strengthening both our communities and our health care system. In a community facing an estimated shortfall of 4,500 affordable housing units, the health care workforce is being priced out” Shim stressed. “Technicians, aides, and support staff face challenges caring for a community they can’t afford to call home. If we want reliable, compassionate care, we must treat workforce housing as essential infrastructure – just as critical as the clinics and hospitals themselves.”

Governor Pritzker’s BUILD (Building Up Illinois Developments) plan is a legislative initiative designed to combat the state's housing shortage by easing zoning restrictions, legalizing accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and streamlining permitting to accelerate construction. The plan aims to build more homes and lower costs, supported by $250 million in capital funding for infrastructure improvements and down payment assistance.

Despite years of public health efforts, most U.S. adults with high blood pressure are still not meeting current treatment targets, a gap that new national data continue to highlight.

Jason Trager, DO, a cardiologist with OSF St. Joseph, says the findings underscore why recent hypertension guideline changes were necessary and why controlling blood pressure remains one of the most effective ways to prevent serious cardiovascular events.

🌀 High‑Tech Goggles Are Bringing Clarity to Vertigo

When Dancing with the Stars performer Val Chmerkovskiy was recently hospitalized in Peoria during his tour, he was experiencing intense dizziness and a sudden spinning sensation. Doctors determined he was suffering from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) — a condition that can be frightening, disruptive, and surprisingly common.

It’s the same condition Bloomington resident David Williams has battled for decades.

Thanks to innovative diagnostic tools like high‑tech infrared goggles, patients like David are finally finding answers, relief, and a clearer path forward.

📣 March is National Athletic Training Month!

👏 We’re excited to take this opportunity to recognize the incredible athletic trainers who serve our OSF HealthCare communities.

🏈 ⚾ From providing coverage for local secondary schools and universities to supporting physicians and caring for patients in our orthopedic clinic, our athletic trainers make a meaningful impact every day. Their expertise keeps student‑athletes safe, helps patients return to the activities they love, and strengthens the overall health of the people we serve.🥎 🏀

A major part of our outreach includes our partnership with the IHSA. Through this collaboration, our athletic trainers provide medical coverage for numerous state championship events at both the middle school and high school levels. They also support the State Farm Holiday Classic—one of the largest high school basketball tournaments in the country.

💙 National Athletic Training Month is the perfect time to celebrate this essential profession and the dedicated individuals behind it.
