I’ve just returned home from traveling, studying, and practicing in the birthplace of yoga—India. Time there feels fluid, and any expectations of what might or should happen quickly become irrelevant. Incredible India—and the universe—has her own timing and plans, ones that rarely match what I think should unfold.

So I learned to let go… and then let go again. To surrender to what is instead of listening to the familiar stories my mind loves to repeat like a scratched record.

Layer by layer, I surrendered into the flow—anchored by daily asana (postures), pranayama (breath control,) kriya (purposeful action) and meditation—and something beautiful happened. A remembering. A deep, cellular knowing that I am already whole and complete. That there is nothing to strive for, no worth to prove. When the stories of lack fall away, what remains is a fullness of being.

Living and moving in Love. Letting Love move through me.
This is coming home.

This Tuesday night, I’ll be sharing a class themed around coming home as we move through a mindful flow of asana, breath, and stillness. A practice designed to leave you full, complete, and connected as we move beyond the limits of the ego, tune into universal flow, and open to our essential nature—beyond bliss. Coming home to ourselves.

There is something familiar and comforting about the hot, humid air clinging to my skin. Immediately I am taken with the sweet smell of India as I step off the airplane onto the tarmac. My identity unimportant as I move en mass with the flow of humanity. Alone but safe in my anonymity. My personal space and story fade into the background as the mystery that is India comes strongly into focus. "Sell your cleverness and find bewilderment." -Rumi

My first childhood memory was walking through tall grass in the Virginia mountains with a box of Cheerios in hand, feeling the grass brush my little legs, sensing the moist earth from morning dew on my bare feet, while the morning sun peeked out playfully from behind the mountains warming my face.

Bewilderment was one of my first authentic spiritual practices. I have had a deep love and awe of nature for as long as I can remember. Playful, curiosity brings me joyfully into the present and it is here that I find the peace and beauty of life living through me and around me. I find love.

And isn’t love everything. Love is in the purr of a kitten, bird song in the morning, the joining together of community after a storm like what happened in the Appalachians after Hurricane Helene. If we continue on this path of devoting ourselves to love rather than to the I, ego, entire worlds open up to us and self-realization, samadhi becomes inevitable.

This is the practice of Isvara Pranidhana, surrender to the divine, whether the divine of your understanding is nature, a deity, the flow of life, the great whatever, or simply love. The practice of surrendering to this is the final sustaining practice in the 8-limbed yoga of the the yoga sutras.

Ishvara Pranidhana, coupled with Tapas (dedication to practice,) and Svadyaya (honest self-reflection,) is the trifecta that literally brings us home. And home is here, in this moment living in love.

In yoga, this deep inner listening is called Svadhyaya — self-study. 🪷

It’s not just about reading sacred texts or analyzing our thoughts. It’s about turning inward, observing without judgment, and recognizing the quiet wisdom already within us.

This Tuesday evening in class, we explore Svadhyaya on the mat — not to perfect the pose, but to witness ourselves in it. To notice. To learn. To grow.
