Get all those delicious reds, blue and purple fruits, veggies and even some grains In your diet to help improve the diversity of your microbiome and keep you healthy.
Feeding your microbiome to restore good bacterial populations is a crucial undertaking following SIBO treatment but also for other conditions involving microbiome imbalance.
Certain plant-based foods contain polyphenols, which promote microbial diversity in the gut.
Polyphenols are brightly coloured phytochemicals found in fruits, vegetables and grains mostly commonly red, blue or purple in colour. These bright coloured foods are great for your immunity and can help your gut health too.
Make sure you get them organic!!
Polyphenol Rich Foods
🍇Fruits - Black elderberries, black currants, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, blackberries, plums, raspberries, red apples, black grapes
🥔Nuts & Seeds - Flaxseed meal, chestnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, black tahini
🥕Vegetables - Purple carrots, red carrots, purple/red potatoes, red cabbage, spinach, red onions, broccoli, carrots (orange), red lettuce
🍞Grains - Red rice, black rice, red and black quinoa, whole grain rye bread (sourdough)
Other – Black olives and olive oil
plant based foods are also rich in prebiotic fibre, an added benefit for restoring the microbiome
Try to get at least 10 or more different plant based, polyphenol rich foods in your diet every day
