🌹💙 Thank You from Blue Cap! 💙🌹

The 17th Annual Rose Walk 2025 was an incredible day – and it wouldn't have been possible without the AMAZING community who supports us!

Each year we proudly walk in honor of Rose Fanucce, a longtime Blue Cap employee whose dedication continues to inspire us. Our gratitude extends to the Fanucce Family for joining us to celebrate Rose’s legacy.

Special thanks to our Event Sponsor, Old National Bank, and the Blue Cap Family & Friends Association for championing this event year after year. We are grateful to City of Blue Island Illinois Clerk Raeann Cantelo-Zylman and Mayor Fred Bilotto for walking with us –special thank you to Mayor Bilotto for sharing his family’s history with Blue Cap and kicking things off at the starting line!

We also extend heartfelt appreciation to the many families and community partners who sponsored refreshments, kids’ activities, registration, the starting and finish lines, and raffles and baked goods:

Refreshments: The Family of Sharon Beck, The Guse Family, Adam House “A Realtor Named House” (331-207-9092), The Kosmala Family, The Thies Family

🌟 The 2nd Annual Blue Cap Games Was a Success Thanks to YOU! 🌟

Did you know? 💡 Rose Walk 2024 funded The 2025 Blue Cap Games! Because of your generosity, we were able to bring another day of joy, inclusion, and community spirit to life.

💙 Thank you to our incredible Blue Cap staff and volunteers, the Chicago Park District and their volunteers, and all the members of the Father Perez Knights of Columbus—who not only helped with the games, but also served the 300 sandwiches provided and delivered by Subway (333 S. Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60005).

Thank you to the Mount Greenwood Special Rec Parents Association for generously purchasing 10 cases of water to keep everyone hydrated during the Games!

🍻 Deep gratitude to Pollyanna Brewing Company and Subway for also sponsoring this year’s event shirts.

🎶 A huge shout-out to Rico, The Michael Jackson Impersonator, for his electrifying performance and for DJ’ing the perfect soundtrack to the day!

🙏 And of course, none of this would have been possible without The Blue Cap Family & Friends Association and everyone who contributed to Rose Walk 2024—your support made this day possible.

🎨 Thank you to the Blue Island Arts Alliance for leading an unforgettable art experience at Blue Cap today!

Over 20 individuals we support explored color and mark-making in every way imaginable—paint was brushed, dripped, poured, blown through bubbles, and mixed in endless combinations. The room was filled with curiosity, creativity, and joy.

This workshop was made possible through a grant given to Blue Cap from ComEd and The Chicago League of Theaters Powering the Arts secured to expand access to creative programming from the community for the people we support.

Today was pantry day at Blue Cap, and thanks to the generosity and community spirit behind last week’s Hula Daze at Rock Island Public House, our shelves were filled just in time!

Dave and Jen, the heart behind Rock Island Public House, have always shown up for Blue Cap—and this year’s Hula Daze was no exception.

It was such a fun and inclusive week—filled with heart, empathy, and creativity. From the rotating tiki drinks and hula dancers to the live music, Santa photos, and caricature art, every part of it reflected their thoughtfulness and love for their neighborhood.

It all built toward an incredible drive that stocked our pantry with food, home goods, and dignity items that will directly support the people we serve.

We’re also deeply grateful to:
🎅 Mr. Joseph Murphy, whose appearance as Santa was a huge draw and helped inspire an outpouring of giving.
✏️ Mr. Mark Odelwald, who generously donated his time, talent, and every tip he received through live caricatures—adding to the spirit of generosity and support for our cause.

Because of all of you, and everyone who donated, we were able to serve our neighbors better today.

📍Pantry Hours: Tuesdays, 9:30 AM–1:30 PM
📍 Location: 2155 Broadway Street, Blue Island, IL 60406

From Everyone at Blue Cap—we can’t thank you enough for opening your doors and hearts to us.

⚡ Energy Tip Tuesday with D’Shawn McCallister! ⚡

D’Shawn’s back with two smart ways to save energy and money:

🔌 Charge at night:

Off-peak electricity rates can be up to 60% cheaper—perfect for phones, tablets, and even big appliances like dishwashers and washing machines with delay-start options.

🛑Turn off unused devices:

Chargers, game consoles, and other electronics still use power when plugged in—unplug them to stop phantom energy loss!

Thanks to the ComEd Energy Force Program, ambassadors like D’Shawn continue to empower communities to live more efficiently—one tip at a time. 💡💙

🍦 National Ice Cream Day at Blue Cap! 🍦

We think our staff and participants are pretty cool 😎—so we celebrated National Ice Cream Day with some icy treats! From popsicles to classic cones, everyone had a chance to chill out and enjoy something sweet. ❄️🍨

Residential Homes and staff received their treats over the weekend, and our Executive Director, Pat Thies, and Admin Assistant Ellen Boyd made the rounds to hand-deliver ice cream to our group homes! Today, our Day Program joined in on the fun—because no one should miss out on dessert. 💙

We’re grateful for the heart and dedication of our Blue Cap community every day—and it was especially nice to create some sweet memories together.
