Friday at Maple Crest, we took a little trip to Italy! In honor of the famous Palio horse race (run twice a year in Siena), our residents enjoyed a delicious Italian-themed dinner that was molto bene (“very good!”).
After the meal, we kept the spirit of the race alive with our very own horse race—full of laughter, cheering, and plenty of friendly competition. Such a fun way to bring a bit of Italian tradition right here to Maple Crest!

A big thank-you to Missy and her Frosty’s Ice Cream Truck crew for bringing the sweet treats (and some extra helping hands)! Residents enjoyed root beer floats, hard scoop ice cream, and sundaes on a perfectly hot, sunny afternoon. One resident even declared it was “the best ice cream they’ve ever had!”

🐾🎉 Happy International Cat Day! 🎉🐾

Today we’re celebrating our very own feline friend — Leo the Cat! 🐱💛

Leo brings so much joy to life here at MHCO. Whether he’s visiting residents for a quick cuddle, making new friends in the halls, or lounging with our lobby birds (his favorite pastime!), Leo is always spreading smiles and purrs wherever he goes. 😺🦜

We’re so lucky to have him as part of our community!
Happy Cat Day, Leo! 🐾✨

The Elders at the Mennonite Memorial Home had some very special visitors this week—the Bluffton Cattle Club 4-H group, led by Alan Begg!
Their visit brought smiles, laughter, and a whole lot of reminiscing. Many of our Elders grew up on farms or spent time working with animals, so seeing the kids proudly share their cattle, chickens, horse, and dogs sparked lots of sweet memories.
The group also gave engaging presentations on animal care, horse markings, water safety, and even how to sharpen lawn mower blades (a few folks took notes!). Most importantly, they brought their time, energy, and kindness—and we’re so grateful for it.
Thank you, Bluffton Cattle Club, for reminding us of the joy and value of hands-on learning and for making our day brighter!

There’s nothing quite like summer at Willow Ridge!
Elders enjoyed a picnic lunch with juicy hamburgers fresh off the grill and sweet corn from Suter’s—just-picked and full of flavor. The shaded pergolas made it the perfect spot to relax, laugh, and soak up a beautiful day with good company and great food.

This talented group of residents and community members has been rehearsing together every week right here at MC—and today, we got to enjoy the full show!

Their beautiful music filled the halls and lifted every spirit. What a gift to share in their hard work, harmony, and heart. Bravo, MapleAires!

Missing a Sock… or a Sweater?
It’s Clothing Claim Day at Mennonite Memorial Home!
Saturday, August 2
3rd Floor Activities Room
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
We’ve collected quite a few mystery items from the laundry—unmarked clothing with no known home. If you or your loved one is missing any clothing, we invite you to stop by the Activity Room and take a look!
Paper, pens, and tape will be available so you can label anything that belongs to you. Our Activities team will make sure it’s marked and returned to the right person.
Thanks for helping us reunite clothes with their people!

Hot weather is here — and it's no joke.
Older adults are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, so it’s important to take extra care during these high temps. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and know the signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Gone Fishin’ – and the Fish Were Biting!
Our Mennonite Memorial Home residents had a fantastic day on the water during our recent fishing trip—and came back with stories and a solid catch! The guys hauled in Tilapia, Bluegill, and some impressive Bass.
Elder Jim Lehman claimed bragging rights for the biggest bass, while Elder Gary Paul racked up the most catches—12 and counting!
Chaplain Lyn really got into the spirit and even kissed one of the first fish caught (we’ll let you decide if it brought good luck). Administrator Lance was also along for the fun and gave a helping hand to the crew.
