Imagine the world without sound.
No laughter. No music. No whispers from loved ones. Now, imagine giving that back to a child.

Together with the Howland Township Rotary Club and Dr. Sheryl Figliano of the Hearing Missions Foundation, we have a mission to change lives in Guatemala. Dr. Figliano is personally refurbishing used hearing aids to deliver the gift of hearing to children who need it most.Shepherd of the Valley Howland
​Your old, unused hearing aid—the one sitting in a drawer—is a miracle waiting to happen. It can give a child their very first chance to hear the voices of their family, the sounds of their community, and the promise of a brighter future.

​How to Donate:
​Simply drop off your used hearing aids (of any model or condition!) in the designated collection box in the main lobby at Shepherd of the Valley Howland.

We are so grateful to the Starkey Hearing Foundation, our generous partner who helped bring the gift of hearing to numerous children in Guatemala.

This life-changing gift will open up opportunities to help children engage more fully in school, connect with friends and classmates, and lead a fuller life at home and in their communities.

This impact also extends to the family, seeing their child light up with sound for the first time, hearing 'I love you', and bringing hope to the new possibilities of their future.

But the giving didn't stop there. Thanks to the outpouring support of the Starkey Hearing Foundation, we were also able to provide hearing aids to accompanying family members who needed them. These families didn’t have to face the burdened choice of deciding who would receive care. Instead, they were able to celebrate together, uplifted by the joy of everyone in need receiving care and better hearing.

None of this would be possible without the visionary pioneers behind this humanitarian mission, Mr. Bill Austin and Mrs. Tani Austin. Since founding the Starkey Hearing Foundation in 1984, they have continued extending their reach to millions around the world, and to people like us.

So the World May Hear! So Guatemala May Hear!

We've recently returned from a hearing mission that reminded us, once again, that when people come together, incredible things can happen.

This hearing mission wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support and generosity of Boardman Rotary and Rotary International. Hundreds of people now have access to something many of us take for granted: the ability to hear.

From the quietest of whispers to the loudest of laughs, we saw firsthand how powerful sound can be in reconnecting people to life, love, and community. We're beyond grateful to have such compassionate partners in this work.

Together, we're not just giving the gift of hearing, we're restoring connection, dignity, and hope.

We are incredibly humbled to share that we have been recognized on the Commemorative Millionaire Lottery Ticket No. 3088 by the Santa Lucía Lottery, in partnership with the Comité Pro Ciegos Sordos.

Since 2015, we have been able to reach hundreds of Guatemalans with hearing loss, restoring sound and connection. Together with the unwavering support of the Boardman Rotary, we've witnessed lives transformed by access to hearing care and hope.

Every child deserves the chance to hear the world around them, and thanks to the incredible partnership with Rotary International, Starkey Hearing Foundation, and Offor Mercy Fund, we’re making that possible. These moments aren’t just life-changing—they’re life-saving. Many of the young adults shown in this video have been helped by our volunteers since 1999, and for many of them, this mission was a powerful moment of reconnection. After receiving their new hearing aids, they had the chance to hear Grammy-nominated singer Blessing Offor perform live—a truly unforgettable experience. The Hearing Missions Foundation is dedicated to delivering the gift of hearing to those in deep financial need—one person at a time, with love and compassion.

In Guatemala, access to hearing care is incredibly limited, but organizations like Comité Pro Ciegos y Sordos are changing lives. With hospitals, schools, and outreach programs, they provide thousands with free hearing aids, batteries, and ongoing support.

One of the greatest gifts on this journey has been Allan Rousselin. Since 2014, his leadership and dedication have brought sustainability to our mission, ensuring that the work we do continues to change lives for years to come.

This is why these missions matter. This is the power of coming together to make a difference. 🧡
