There are many risk factors for stroke such as hypertension, obesity or smoking, but new research suggests that a person‘s blood type may also be a factor. Blood type A may increase a risk of stroke as a young adult by as much as 16%, while Type O by 12%. Researchers warn, however, that smoking and hypertension pose a much higher risk of stroke when compared to the risk from your blood type.

Did you know that a diet consisting of ultra-processed foods is associated with increased dementia risk?

An article published in a Neurology Today describes a prospective study that demonstrated that altering diets from ultra-processed to minimally processed foods may help to prevent dementia. The article stated that by replacing the equivalent of a chocolate bar with half an apple can help lower dementia and vascular dementia risks. In addition, a secondary analysis of the study stated that limiting ultra-processed foods lowers the risk of dementia but not Alzheimer’s disease. The article defined ultra-processed foods as snacks, beverages, and sauces while minimally processed foods were fruits and vegetables.
